Well, as I mentioned in another thread I seem to have toasted a memory chip on my BFG 5200 Ultra 128mb (lovely strips on screen), sooooo I just HAD to replace it with a find at Fry's here locally with a PNY 6800 GT 256mb priced at 374.00.
Now, lets see what this thing does and what the hipe about these new cards is all about...
WoW  , so that is what Aquamark and Trolls are SUPPOSE to look like!! :yikes:
Ok, now while I wait for my new computer to get in, I was playing around with OCing a bit using Coolbits2 on my p4 1.7 512mb Soyo Fire dragon. Now I haven't posted anything on that, but I have been able to get the mobo OC'd to 1.9 and the memory (cheap 2100) tighten up to 2 5 3 3 from 2.5 7 3 3 all with stock HS and fan. The memory is what is keeping me from getting it higher with a bit failure in memtest86 as it will post at 2.0.
It is pretty slow doing Prime95 1m at 1:38s
Ok, back to the 6800.
First I ran Aquamark and 3DMark03 to get a baseline.
Next, I ran the wizard to detect optimal freqencies and it came up from base 350/1.0 to 412/1.2.
Reran the benchmarks and BAM! Slower then running the default settings! :beat:
Ok, Scratched my head, read a few more posts here and relized that I was probably hitting the Temp throttler. Open the advanced settings and ran aquamark again, quickly shifting when it was finished to see what the temp was and sure enough it appears my card throttles down at 65c.
Ok, ran back to the boards here and found some options on how to increase / turn off that 'feature' but not sure I'm ready for the big time in bios modding my new 400 dollar card  as I'm sure to :smash:
So my question is, till I get ready for the big splash on upgrading the GPU bios, is there any soft changes I can make to get by that throttler? :help:
Thanks,
Scott
