I have been messing with the Abit IC7 for two days now. As compared to my Asus P4P800 Del, the P4P800 has it over the IC7
in my book. Although my feelings could change with a faster bios. I'm running Abits newest bios. Also got a 9700 pro video card that I traded some PC stuff for. Its running great in this IC7 mobo. 3DMark score is 18033. This replaced a 8500le that got around 9000. So its a gig upgrade for me. I may sell my P4P800 del. Its a great mobo. I just wanted something new for the challenge.
Hehe, another P4P800 user jumps to the IC7 bandwagon. :D
Yeah, I found the P4P800 to be a bit faster feeling than my IC7 at the relative same FSB settings, but my IC7 definately can OC further.

Thanks guys, and yea theres a mean learning curve in the IC7 bios. But thats just what I like! :D It does oc to a higher fsb then the P4P800. I'm having fun! :)
Most of the new boards have a learning curve to deal with. Good luck with the new board Skully. . . .
One thin I am curious on, where is this info that the ABIT IC7 OC's more then the Asus P4P800? I'd like to know why also.

Perhaps the active cooling of the NB over the passive for the ASUS?

Wow... Skully.... trying the Abit.
Well, all I have heard are good things. Prom sure did speak very high of it. Of course, I am one to talk... I went from the P4P800 Deluxe to the DFI Lan Party Pro.
But then again... I had to because of my water cooling leak... good luck with your testing!!

I got an extra 13MHz fsb when I switched to the IC7-G. I found that, pound for pound, the IC7 is faster than my P4P was.

i didnt really get further on the IC7 but i did get there on .05v less vcore.
p4p800 = 1.7v
ic7 = 1.65v
the ic7 is also about 300 3dmarks faster then my p4p800 was.

yep ~ the ic7 undervolts .025v according to WHM.

I'm thinking that the canterwoods in general are just better than the springdales for stability.

On my IC7 my 3DMark1 score is 18999. My 2.6c is oc to 274fsb, @ 3567mhz. 800 strap @ 5:4, memory Mushkin & Corsair DDR400, timings 2.5,3,2,5, GA all auto. 9700 pro oc'ed engine 371, memory 351. Sandra score unbuffered 2854/2919, all stable.

That's pretty nice... but... why the low Sandra scores? (or are those the unbuffered scores?)

Skully...
Some adivce... or wisdom...
I should get my P4P800 Deluxe back from Asus in a few weeks... that is, of course, if the whole board isn't fried. I still contend that is one of the best boards I have ever owned.
Should I switch back to it and see how far I can push with my new HyperX memory or enjoy the stability for a while with my DFI Lan Party Pro. I am at 254 fsb on it... very stable, however, it isn't going much further. That's not too bad for a 2.8c running at 3.55. One of these will be used as a spare board for the time being... just really haven't decided which one yet... But then again I might sell one of these to recoup some of the money from my water cooling disaster..

Comments... Yea I'm still quite fond of my P4P800D! Your P4P800D will oc higher. I still have mine and I'm not sure if I should sell it or not. This IC7 oc about the same and the on board sound works better, plus a plethora of oc'ing features in the bios.
So I'm kinda in the same boat as you. You'll have to figure that one yourself my friend. :)

Hehehe... on board sound works better? Many people seemed to have problems with the Realtek with those ABIT boards.

Just and up-date on my IC7. Its running smooth and trouble free!
273 fsb, ratio 5:4, 800 strap, timings 2.5 2-2-5, 3567MHZ, cpu 2.6c, stable. I can get a higher oc with looser timings, but I like these tight timings. Sandra score is 3066/3009, 3DM1 score 17556, @ default, on a 9700 Pro. Vdimm 2.7, vcore 1.6, GA on auto.

Nice work and info on the process.
I'm hoping to eventually get my lowly 2.4c to 275+FSB but I'll be happy with that 273 of yours:D

SKully,
I agree with you that the IC7 is one of the best motherboards I've ever owned; it's got its niggles, but what can I expect with as rich a feature set as it boasts? As far as the P4P800D goes, I liked it but it was one finicky SOB; my IC7 overclocks 15MHz fsb higher with my 2.4C than the P4P800's (yeah, I had 2, lol) did, 294 instead of 279:rock:
have you noticed any nuttiness with the 5:4 divider?

have you noticed any nuttiness with the 5:4 divider? No my IC7 runs 5:4 great. Right now I'm @ 265, 5:4, timings @ 2.5 3,3, 6. Sandra 3048/3020 unbuffered. This is with 4 sticks of memory. With two sticks of memory, I can get 273 stable with lower memory timimgs 2.5 2-2-5, this with 2X256 Mushkin PC3500 Cas 222.

Have you tried running the sticks at 1:1, finding their top stable running speed, and trying to run that same effective running speed at the 5:4 ratio? BTW, if your running 273fsb at 5:4, then your mem is running at 217, right? Isn't that where PC3500 is precisely rate for;)? My two 512MB sticks of HyperX will run stable at 232fsb with a 1:1 ratio, whereas they will not stay stable above 227fsb while using the 5:4 ratio. My cpu can do 292fsb (233 mem bus at 5:4) so I'm sure it's not the bottleneck.
Just curious if anyone else has the same issue as me:). . .
