I am thinking about ordering the above captioned cooling device for my in-process system. I will have a WD Raptor HDD as a primary SATA and probably a Maxtor 80GB for data. There is also a 200gb simpletech external so I may not need the external. The video card will be nothing special - something like a ATI Radeon 9200 or MSI FX5200.
Problem is that if I get the 7000-CU I was told that the weight voids the Intel Warranty (of course who would know!) but the 7000-CU would be required if I tried to OC the 3.4C and the lighter 7000-ALCU would not be sufficient for and OC'ed 3.4C.
Any suggestions on other relatively quiet cooling solutions? I will us AS Ceramique as the thermal grease.

The Zalman is a nice choise and is relatively quite. Also the XP-120 would be a good choice so would the SP-94.

Also look into swiftech mcx478.

I wouldn't buy a 5200, maybe a 5500 or 9600. 52's are just too weak.

FYI - I believe the weight limit for warranty is 450g (~1lb). Some of the heavier heat sinks have a backing plate to help support the weight. I will have to defer to others who use heavier heat sinks as I have not installed one and plan to stick with the Zalman 7000AlCu and eventually go with the XP120.

I think you are on the right track witht he 7000-Cu, and may I suggest one of these in addition to it: http://www.zalmanusa.com/usa/product/view.asp?idx=15&code=016 You can mount it so it blows directly into the 7000-Cu.
This is how I am currently running my setup. The 92mm fan blowing directly into the 7000-Cu gives the 7000-Cu fan some extra RPM's as well as gives me a few extra degrees cooler than without the FB-123. *PLEASE NOTE* I don't run either product in quiet mode, I let them both ride full throttle. Even at that though - they are still pretty quiet (in my opinion).
good luck dwcoleman...

i bought one of these suckers - stuck it on a 3.2c on a DFI 875 Infinity. I had screwed up the install of the stock sticking intel heatsink and the system immediately shutdown at i think somewhere between 90 and 99 celcius. Thought i blew the 3.2c but the Zalman - so incredibly easy to installl...now trying to find out baseline temperature - do i believe the winbond monitor - if so the idle is around 27 to 30c but the basement is usually cool and the ambient the board is not in a case yet. Ran Prime95 torture and it went up to around 36 after a few hours.
that is all for now.
