I'd use a thermalright slk-948U. Although my alpha has proven itself on my older athlon XP system, I'm now more a thermalright fan. There's no special reason why I love thermalright more these days :D ...

Howdy fellas. I've been looking on what ppl are getting on there AMD64 3400+'s overclock and ran across this and thought I would share that I purchased the Thermalright XP-120 and I put it on the AMD64 3400+ 512k chip. First off I did NOT have the motherbaord in the case, it was simply sitting on top of my case in the open so I know it will make some difference in general.
I could take the fan completely off and use the heatsink only, it will idle around 50c. If I put it under load (using prime95 and full heat test) it took about 8 minutes (roughly) for it to hit 80c before I finaly shut it down. I ran some quake demos over and over and such without a fan even on it and it worked great.
Thing is, even witht he fan the thing would run at like 47c idle anyway. I just got my 3400+ 1meg cache chip last night and sent the 512 back. This one runs out of the box 37c and I have not done the no fan test just yet but I will and let you know how it worked out. Just wanted to let you know that I was impressed with the xp-120.
One last thing that was important, when I was without a fan at all and I shutdown prime95 after hitting 80c, it went back down to around 51c after only a few seconds. I was thinken it would take awhile to go down IF it went down hardly at all. Usualy when things heat up, they keep heating up. So this showed me (even though it was out of the case and no fan on the sink) it is disapating heat rather well.
I do have pix (NO BANNERS AT ALL) on my site (Nothing about the cooling yet only that it will fit on the KV8-PRO board). Its the top new section on the front page. WWW.JJMAN.ORG (http://www.jjman.org)
I will be testing my 3400+ @1meg with arctic silver 5 and this same test but inside my case later on this week and I will post the results in case someone wants to know in general about what this thing will run at or at least for my computer/case/room.
Thanks
JJMAN
