Here’s what the problem is:
If I do a search for a computer on my network, I can see it and access it from the search window
If I try and go through “My Network Places” to see the computer, I get an error saying that I do not have permission to access the workgroup and I can’t see any other computers.
The only change to the system that I made is I installed the new Folding Client and set it up as a service.
Any thoughts, ideas?
Windows XP Pro SP1
whenever that happens to me, i just use the wizard and re-set up my network.

Ok, a little more info:
Tried the setup wizard, did not fix the problem.
Home-1 is running XP Pro
Other Computers are running 2K Pro
Other network components
Linksys wireless broadband router, Home-1 connected through CAT5, Home-2 and Home-3 connected through wireless, Home-4 connected through CAT5.
Home-2, -3, -4 can all see and access each other and Home-1, but Home one can not see or access any others

Do you have a firewall? If so may want to check and see if it is configured properly.

yes, on the router, but all computers should be behind the firewall.
I disabled it and still not able to see other computers.

Did you try to map a network drive? That works for me. Also make sure windows firewall is off on that computer.

maybe the option for simple file sharing needs to be enabled?
Explorer
--Tools
---Folder Options
----View tab
------Use Simple file sharing

Ya, I have that checked.
I have all drives on the networked computers shared out to the administrators user group
It was just really weird that I could see and access the information on the drives through the search function but could not see them under My Network Places > Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network > Workgroup.
What ever happened, mapping the drives must have fixed or reset the network properties because it’s all working as advertised now. I even went back in and unmapped the drives and it’s still working fine.
Strange I say.

It was done before no problem, with sp1 on there.
When I boot to win2k I can see the shared folders and I even put the c Dr there
I Can see all.
So I go over XP the only thing I can open is the XP Dr theirs the icon for the other Computer. but can't open it i put a shared folder on the c Dr for win2k only thing shows\is the printer\folder
Not the shared one. I think that’s been the problem
Any ideas.
thanks

flex22,
That was exactly the error I was getting.
All my win2K machines could see the XP machine, but it could not see the 2K machines unless I did a search for the specific machine…..it was very strange.
Especially since the network was working fine a few hours before.
When I remapped the drives everything went back to normal, have you tried that yet?
