I see on some other forums and on Sapphires Forum that people are softmodding their X800pros to X800xts. Here's a link to the forum http://www.sapphiretech.com/forum/commforums.asp under Overclock that mutha.
Has anyone here tried the softmod yet? My biggest question would be is if you enable the 4 pipes via a BIOS mod can you undo them with flashing it back? This is unlike the hardware mod of connecting the pins to mod to an xt. It's being done on X800pros with VIVO that have the 1.6 Samsung memory
Also Sapphire has posted this warning http://www.sapphiretech.com/pressrelease/Hack-Bios-Warning.pdf
Like to hear some feedback...

Well my answer to that question of disabling the 4 extra pipes is YES! If you use the Gigabyte BIOS to open the 4 pipes on the X800pro VIVO you can now FlASH the BIOS back to the orgin one  I was worried that if I flash to a X800 XT and one of the 4 pipes was bad I would be stuck with a X800pro with a broken pipe. There is now a empty BIOS that will clear the preserved area of the Gigabyte BIOS that will allow you to flash back and undo the 4 extra pipes :thumb:
Check out this URL for the flash and BIOS files http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=188
I feel confident to try it now.... :D

i have a sapphire x800 pro vivo that i modded using the gigabyte mod to 16 pipes. but my card then didnt overclock as well as it did with the stock pro bios (compared to the ati xt bios)
so after some reading what i did was i flashed back to the pro bios after the gigabyte flash and retained my 16 pipes and got back my oc ability, this was possible because the ati flasher does not address the pipes section of the bios as the gigabyte flasher does. so when i flashed back to the pro bios it kept my 16 pipes active. ;) so i have a hybrid pro with a 550/1100 clock and 16 pipes. BTW my sapphire has the 1.6 samsung ddr
from what i have read some non vivio cards have been HARD modded (joining the bridges) but it has been the luck of the draw, the same can be said of the vivo soft mods as it is not guaranteed.

Getting better benchmarks with the XT BIOS than the pro 16pipes... card doesn't oc very well 535\673 ... did the pencil vmod to smooth it out from 1.39 to 1.45 volts. It's a Sapphire Vivo Pro with the 1.6ns memory... added the Zalman ZM80D-HP and fan ... the stock HSF would hit above 70c ... now no more than 60c with a load ... hits 85FPS in Doom3 timedemo, 13,039 3Dmark03, 24,448 3dmark02SE, 67,939 in AquaMark... I think the card is way over priced in comparision to the 6800GT... but still I'm happy with my modded XT :D
