i installed dirextX 9.0b, but i still cannot run 2dmark2k1. it says i do not have a 3d accelerator and need to upgrade my video card...
my card is a 9800pro lol..
anyone know how to enable this?
The Windows suite of server products starting with 2003 was going to leave out the DX capabilities so that games cannot run. It's a server OS, not for gaming, that is what XP is for.
I'll look around, but I would assume just installing DX9 would work.

You have to enable the features.
First you take the Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/Troubleshooting/Hardware acceleration to Full.
Then you goto the Start/Run/dxdiag/Display window and enable any of the disabled DirectX Features. Do it in order of what is at the top before preceding to the bottom.

hmm... contrary to what I was expecting It seems XP ran doom3 with 5fps+ over w2k3.. havent' benchmarked in 2k3 after some tweaks so maybe it was just that.
Other than that, 2k3 is as great for games as is XP! :D

Did some benchies again with 2k3 and all is well. I get around 51 fps with the timedemo1. In game it fluctuates between 40 and 60.

IMO, I think Win2k3 is THE best OS out there.

ok guys, i have another problem. i need to map a network drive to connect to my H: drive at my university. i set up a VPN for it and it works ( even tho it says i have a duplicate name??) but when i type in the info to try to map the h drive and connect to it, it give me an error saying the network isnt there. i have connected many times to it in windows xp and never had this problem.

oh, and when i put in the catalyst drivers ( win xpo drivers because thats all they have on ati's website) the ati control panel wont boot up. the driver is installed and all, but is there something i have to tweak to allow the control panel to work?

Refer to my post #4 on this thread. More than likely upon installation of the CAT drivers the Hardware acceleration is probably not at full anymore. Once you do that and click on apply the ATI control panel will work. Should also check your dxdiag settings to ensure that the noted enabed features are still enabled.

Yeah one is a strange one to me. I have never dealt with VPN. Are you trying to connect by the static IP on your router to the server or the static IP on the server with no router? Network name should not work unless you have a registered DNS on the Internet.

wow, i have no idea! i run from my pc to a router to a modem to the cable. exact same setup i always ran and it works with xp. i dont know if its static and stuff. how do i tell?

From the command prompt run: ipconfig /all
See if DHCP is not enabled. If not then post only the ip number to the first dot and nothing else, e.g. 10. - not 10.0.0.1.
Hmmm, actually-if the ip address that is displayed on my sig matches your ip address in the ipconfig /all command with dhcp not enabled then you probably have a static ip address. My sig does not track ip addresses and so I cannot see what your ip address is. :)

Sounds like you tried to open the command prompt from the Run prompt. :)
Start/Accessories/Command Prompt is what I was talking about. Then at the prompt on that window, you enter ipconfig /all.

ok, i have done that, and its says dchp disabled, but the ip in your sig isnt the same as the one on here. i copied my prompt and put it on a .doc file ...
