Looks like MS shut down pre-ordering of a CD. Just checked and the page says:
Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD
Thank you for your interest in the Windows XP Service Pack 2 CD. You will be able to order this CD when Windows XP Service Pack 2 becomes available later this summer. Please check back.
The best way to ensure you get SP2 when it is released is by turning on the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP. Visit the Protect Your PC site to let us turn it on for you or follow these manual steps—either way you'll get SP2 automatically as Microsoft releases it.
Turning on Automatic Updates today allows your PC to begin downloading important updates automatically, including the latest version of Windows Update. It also ensures you will receive future updates, such as SP2.[/COLOR]
Looks like we will either have to download or wait to order the CD after it is officially launched (I think it's August 25 for the english version).
it looks like it is just another beta, or did i read that wrong on the abx site?

Sorry to hear that.
I popped over there and noticed two separate threads started at ABX about this final version being in German and/or beta.
The link I posted to MS is still okay for trying to order a CD but MS has shut it down. It seems some at ABX were able to order a CD version before MS shut down ordering (wonder why they allowed that).
Here's the link to the thread at ABX - the first post identifies the dates when the official SP2 version is released (August 25 for English and September 1 for German):

I just installed it. No problem, smoother cleaner install than the SP2 beta/rc's.

Booted up, removed information from Beta/RC build. No more report error link, no more build version in explorer properties. No help us with this beta build notice. Looks final to me.
i'm running the Beta and the online update is not there yet. I would assume that it is not ready yet. I was told the Windows Update site would have it on Tuesday.

WTF does that mean?

Yep, I agree. My only complaint is the Popup notification from the Security Alerts that my Virus proggie cannot be read. Right now, SP2 does not like NAV. Symantec should have an update out by the end of the week to address this issue. I have the security notification disabled for the virus scanning until Symantec issues it's update.
Not a big deal . . .

My AVG anti-virus was found OK but it said my ZoneAlarm Pro was installed but Windows didn't know if it was running? :suspect:
I also used to have the ability to change my visual styles/themes with a free uxtheme.dll patcher I got from Neowin (UXTheme Multi-Patcher v1.5) but that ability is now gone. My taskbar is back to the "Classic Windows" look for some reason. :|
Other than that, all's good, I guess. :)

Sounds like the usual MS update  . I am going to have to wait to get the CD maybe by then there will be some patches out for NAV and firewalls.
So why does the download site have this mesage  :
"DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download will be available soon on Windows Update."
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&DisplayLang=en
Any reason why you cannot download if you are using it for "just one computer" I wonder what MS thinks is more "appropriate" for me?

it completely disabled my netBios connection, and i couldnt fix it :suspect:
so i had to convert my connection to TCP.
i prolly shoulda done that anyways :bonk:
it also made my User Accounts window go wacky, but it fixed itself with another reboot.
there are alot of new GUI interfaces scattered around.
2 new services running on auto too.
ive got my sp1 disk image on hand, im just waiting for sp2 to completely hose my rig by weeks end :hide:

Ok, did a Live Update with NAV (Norton Anti Virus) this morning and now the security center for SP2 can read the NAV and tells me that my machine is virus free.

I installed it and had problems with my wireless on my laptop. It said I needed to update the wireless networking software whih I did. But I still cant get on line it says my WEP (wireless encryption key) is wrong. SO I cant connect with the wireless Base station. I uninstalled it and am back to where I was. Not a good thing. Why would my wep be incorrect from the update??

The only issues I had were extremely long boot time the first couple of time I rebooted the machine after I installed sp2 but it went away ? SP2 doesn,t recognise my av but thats not a problem and had to give permisiion to some programes to get through the firewall but thats it.. Everything else is still working fine.I really like the pop up blocker nice addition since I didn,t have one.
been running it for 24 hours now, no probs yet.
