Just a repost, but I think this deserves its own thread:
I just called a store inquiring about this motherboard and the sales associate was very informative telling me that the PAT like thing (MAM) was being hardwired shut off the newer P4P800 motherboards. He said that they got a new batch so he wasn't sure if they were the new ones that were hardwired or just old ones that just came in.
Just thought I'd tell yas in case everyone's still assuming it's got the pseudo-PAT for sure.
I took the chance and ordered still so whatever.:p

interesting so quickly did the new batch get released :)
Damn that was quick. . . . I guess if you have an original P4P800, you can Ebay it for a permium. . . . . :stop:

hehe.. eBay... gotta love it.
Yeah, well, I'm sure right from the beginning Intel was on especially ASUS's case since they seemed to have been the pioneer in this area...
Ah well.:(
Talking about killing innovention. . . . . . ;)

didn't see intel fix 9700/AGP issues so quickly on their granite bay boards

Sigh...
Well, when I get the mobo, I will test it to see if indeed it is shut off permanently. Would SiSoft Sandra memroy bench be the easiest way?

Hey could you take a look at one thing?
Look between the PCI slots where it says P4P800. Then look to the bottom right of this. It should give you the revision number. I believe all current boards are rev. 1.02 but maybe the new ones are of a different revision, so maybe we can help some people avoid the newer boards if infact it is a new revision.

Ok, hopefully that means that it's still got the PAT! :D

impossible if you don't mind bending the header a little bit;)

Hmmm... well the MAM setting could be totally in the BIOS and not actually working. Could you try running a memory bench with and without the MAM enabled.

Nothing stopping you at all. It's the way to go for higher wattage fans or if you are running the fans to a rheobus. No need to loose the fan monitoring.
Just did one.

and it shows fully enabled.

Here is a pic of the fan header clearence. I am only using the header to monitor speed and not power the fan.
Good shot. Yah you can just pop the connectors out of a 3 pin end with a small screw driver or probe and leave the yellow ( or blue or green or sometimes white ) wire for monitoring. If you have an extra 3 pin fan end around, pop all the wires out and pop the yellow in. That way no cutting and splicing needed.
It also looks like the Swifty could have been filed or ground slightly to clear the header if it was bending it.

and the swifty does come close to touching the caps. so keep that in mind. but i have had it in tighter fits before:)
I have the Zalman 7000ALCU, Thermalright 800U and the Swifty on my list.

IMO, the SLK-800U is not worth it. Usually the SLK-900U is only a few dollars more and you have the ability to mount a 92mm fan giving you about the same cooling for less noise.
The main shootout I think would be between a SLK-900U and a Zalman 7000Cu. The choice would be whether you want quiet to performance. If you had the same fan on the SLK-900U as the Zalman, the Zalman would do better, but the SLK-900U has the ability to mount more powerful fans, whereas the Zalman has a fan already and cannot be replaced easily. I went for the SLK-900U and a 92mm ThermalTake fan. It should be here this coming week, so I'll let you know how it cools my P4 2.4C at stock and o/ced.
I have not checked the weights yet on the 800 versus 900U. If there is no big diff. then yes the 900. From what I have read so far, the Zalman 7000ALCU is not far off the the CU model and weighs a LOT less. I am not likely going to be into radical overclocks for day in and day out running ( yah I say that now and don't believe it myself ). The 900U has the greatest flexibility and the Swifty is still a great sink.
