so i just got an ati x800
and my system has been completely unstable since
i ran 3dmark2k3 just fine and scored 11.5k
so i tried playing farcry and it kept crashing...
and now... my overclock isn't stable even at 2.6 ghz while it was stable at 2.75 ghz just before!!!
i think my luck has officially ran out with athlons...
:help:
Dang, that's no good. :(
Does the new card run a lot hotter, ie CPU temps up?
Drawing more juice from your PSU?
I had an Asus 9800XT, ran like cacca until I first loaded the drivers off the CD, then the latest Catalysts.
Try unloading the Catalysts and a fresh install?
Hope you get it worked out Shim .

well...
anyone know how to determine if the mem controller on your chip is damaged or if it's your mobo?
i tried doing some memtest86 (cache ON looping test #5)
200 mhz no errors
210 mhz no errors
220 mhz 1000 errors on 1st loop
anything above ridiculous amount of errors
i knwo my ram is good at 240 mhz with 3.2 volts!!!
so how can i tell if it's the chip or the motherboard?
would my chip even boot if i had a damaged mem controller?

I think your problem is with your power supply. The x800 and 6800 models use too much power. So try changing your power with at least 480watt.
But before this you can also try to use your cpu at default ;) and see if there is a problem again.

default no problems...
whenever ram is at 200 mhz there's no problems... :(
video card is fine... i think either my board wants to crap on me or my cpu!!! just don't know which one yet...

The reason of why I said try default is that with default volt your cpu uses less voltage so the vga card can get enough energy to be stable ;)
If one of your friends have at least 480watt power, try replacing your power with that and try it. If there is a problem again then you should think about your board or cpu...

yeah even at stock it has issues...
even before i got the card, this setup was just not being happy with me...

yeah... hmm...
i switched out the x800 and put in my 9600XT...
so far no problems yet... but MAN... DOES THE X800 REALLY DRAW THAT MUCH JUICE!!!!?????

I had not heard that the x800 was power hungry but would suspect it needs more juice than the 9600. I only heard that the 6800 was greedy (maybe it was ATI that started spreading the rumour so more would pick up the x800 instead).

so yeah... usually my computer will reboot in 5 minutes after i start up f@h
so far no problems at all with the 9600XT...
so can i assume it's the video card???

Well I would guess it is the Power supply also. x800 draws to much power for your PSU.

no there is no problem with your video card. the problem is your power supply.
6800 and x800 series cards need at least 480watt power sup.
so don't get a new board, get a power sup. :D

lol thanks..
yeah, my 9600XT seems to have solved my problem though i can't seem to reach the 2.75 ghz mark that i hit before
currently sitting pretty at 2.4 ghz...
i'll do more testing today to see if i can get to 2.75 with the XT and then install the new psu with the x800... :)
