View Full Version : Okay, my K8N Neo is stable @ 240 - 250+. Memory??

This is not a speculative question. My new system (K8N Neo/3000+ CG Newcastle) is fairly happy around 250 (2.5 ghz) with 1.5-1.6 vcore. I'll need a little more cooling than stock if I run at the high end much, since the no load to load range is 40C to 62C with the 1.6 vcore. I could get by on 512 meg, though 1 gig might be better.

Actually there are two questions:

1) for these speeds, what rating (brand?) should I be looking at, 3200, 3500, 3700 or 4000 to achieve 1:1 cpu to mem in this A64 board?

2) should I stick with one dimm to ensure I can achieve my goal?

well, as anyone will concur i think, ocz EB pc3700 is the best choice out there right now for A64 rigs.

I agree OCZ PC 3700 EB is the best choice for your board.
Since you got a newcastle I assume your CPU is still a Socket 754 CPU, In that case I would recommend 1 dimm rather than 2 dimms.
I've had more succes with 1 dimm on my MSI motherboard. 2 Dimm's mostly degrades the stability.

Thanks for the replies!

I have seen one remark that the OCZ 3700eb was stable to 260 - 262, which should do the trick.

Installing only one dimm had been my opinion also, but where does one find a single 512 meg stick of OCZ 3700eb?

It doesn't come in 1gig, I gather, but if that much is needed then the reference above, which was one individual's experience, as far as I know, claimed 2 sticks were also stable. If so the 512 meg would seem to be the way to go, if available.

The K8N Neo Platinum only supprts up to DDR 400, so you'll want to procure the OCZ3200 Enhanced Bandwidth instead of the OCZ3700.

This has been very secretive...but you can find a single stick of 3500/3700EB @ SVC.COM :)
