I have a few games that I would love to play but some are older and do not have XP listed as an OS. Some only list up to Win98 and some up to Win2000. None list XP. Can I run these games out of the box on my P4 with WinXP? If not then is it possible to download a patch that woudl allow me to run these games?

If there's nothing I can do then what woud you recommend as a great game? I love MechWarrior, TombRaider and WarCraft. Can't play Quake (too many headaches). Love the games where you can shoot em up but also has some challenging thinking to do (strategy or finding clues). Would Half-Life (I or II) fit the bill?

Thanks for the recommendations.

If you make sure your version of XP is up-to-date you can almost run any game you want.

You may want to take a look at the 'compatibility' tab on the games' executable or shortcut properties because here you can specify whether to 'emulate' another/older OS such as Win98/Win2000. Doesn't always work but I've found that with some work there are very few games I don't get to run.

hey, I even got the old dos'er Prince of Persia to run so that says something!! :)

Thanks SubZ. Will give it a shot but may need to post again (sometimes I'm a bit dense :hide: )

Is this the monochromatic PoP version? That was such a fun game. It is probably why I love Tomb Raider - cooler weapons, neater stunts. It was the first game that really made me jump out of my seat (music keeps you on the edge and quite a few surprises).

Do you have any game preferences?

Snafu, check out this site (http://www.ntcompatible.com/) it will give you a complete rundown on what older games work with XP and any workarounds that might be necessary to help them to play at thier full potential

Snafu... No that was the colored one but I think it was running on a CGA display back then... oh... my memory..

About my game preferences: I love running emulators and playing some of the old Atari 800XL games or just one of those classic Arcade games (like Gyruss). I'm all into RTS and FPS regarding today's games. I love the Warcraft, Starcraft, C&C and MOHA and COD series!!

Just bought Railroad Tycoon 3... Makes me relive the old RR1 game only with supperb graphics and gameplay.. :chit:

Thanks SubZ.

I can only remember the monochromatic version. It was orange no less  .

I love the old games especially those you can go head-to-head. I like the newer games as well as they can stress the GPU so I can test the card's oc. D3 or HL2 will definitely stress my 9600XT and will probably have to turn off a number of the game's features for them to run at a high enough FPS.

Yeah, Still has a lot of charm to it doesn't it? Playing those oldies with their CGA-like graphics.

Like I said, you should try one of those emulators... if you ever played any of those arcade machines and loved it, you'll love that emulator. Only problem is finding roms to play.
