I would recommend OCZ pc3500 EB or OCZ PC3700 EB. It got My CPU running @ 2.5Ghz on a crapy MSI board.
A friend used OCZ PC3200 EB on his AMD 64 3200+ And he's running @2.45Ghz (Clawhammer core)
I'm sure you will find some more answers on your cores steppings here: http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/25759.pdf

My 3400 hit around 225 stable on air. It did get to 250 chilled :thumb: THe ocz 3500eb is the way to go with that cpu especially if your gonna use air cooling

that's a CG stepping so I think you have a legitmate shot at 2.5-2.6ghz on air with about 1.7-1.75v if you have a good aircooler.
3700EB ram would be best bet IMO

On a similar note, I'd like to add this question: I'm giving serious thought to throwing together an A64 system for myself... what should I look for on the packaging for best overclocking results? (I know what to look for in Intel chips, but AMD's stuff is still a mystery to me).

Hey 2krazy, a 3400 hitting 2.4Ghz your havin a laugh!
Of course it can LOL, I "had" a 3000+ Newcastle on a DFI LP nF3 UT-250Gb stable @ 2.45Ghz without breaking sweat.
I got a 939 rig now!
Ok I did have a bios change (10/15) a Zalman cpns7700-Cu and Geil Ultra-X Cas2.
settings: Mult x10 x3 x240, V 1.45 x Vspec 123%, mem 10,3,3,2.5...1:1,AGP lock 66, and mess around with ALL other mem timings if bios 10/15.
Hope this helps a little.
