Descent was the first game I bought to test my brand new P133 back in......well, anyway, IMHO it is still the best first person shooter game ever....:D

ive got descent2 running! (dos game folks)

there is also a windows version, ill have to see if that works any better (prolly not)

its a little fast on a 3.5ghz ~ im gonna hafta hex edit the ham file so i can get the ship to turn :rolleyes:

yep ~ it worked. i seccessfully hacked the Descent2 ham file :-)
it now turns just like it used to at low fps.

i also loaded the Descent1 conversion file so i can play the Descent1 levels :rock:

i think they still play Descent on KALI.

Descent doesnt use servers. its an IPX converted to TCP thru kali.
P2P gameplay.

not only are the bots dogfighting me ~ they are actually leaving their posts to actively seek me out :wack:

they arent supposed to do that w/o seeing me 1st!
(theyre supposed to be guarding certain areas / items)

When I bought the original descent it warned about the nausea and disorientation it can cause. I remember playing with 2 friends over our modems on my old P75mhz with a 540mb HDD and 2mb integrated graphics and thinking it was the best thing ever! *Sigh* those were the days, make 3 systems play a game over the phone lines with what are now primitive 3D graphics and you felt like you were in a scifi flick :beer:

Hey Thugs, how do you suppose the bots are able to do that anyways? Is it that the algorithms or whatever were just that well written and waiting for enough processing power to fully function??? If so that's amazing that the code was that far ahead of it's time :eyepop:

actually i think its a bug.

d1 d2 and d3 all had it.
the faster your framerate was the faster the game went ~ literally.

you flew faster, turned faster, shot faster.
in multiplayer we concidered excessive framerate (above 100) to be cheating.

the smart bots are prolly the same way.
you should see what the green claw scratchers try to do to my ship!

before, they would just scratch you a few times and then move away.
now they get you, trap you against a wall or in a corner, and youre history in seconds :look:

I think while you all were playing Descent, I was playing Extreme Assault on MPlayer. Great game! Remember Glyde? When I hooked up my Voodoo card inline the first time.....gaming couldn't get any better could it? :p

the d@mn bots are so smart and kill me so quickly (speed bug) that i cant come close to playing on the highest difficulty :wack: (where i used to play)

this is a great game ~ i think a remake is in order ;)

It's a futuristic chopper. You could drive either a tank or the chopper.

Drift and turn and you can pepper that nasty tank with your razor guns while circling it. :D

You can still download the demo, but you better have an old box laying around somewhere. It likes Dos sound and a Glide video card to be at its best.

you may need joyfix98.exe and maybe a few command line switches ~ in the readme files. im not really sure since im a mouser :look:

youre gonna wanna slow the game down as much as possible....
800res using 2 rearview mirrors will help.
youll see what i mean :deviltail

when setting up the sound card disable the midi music card ~ mine wouldnt work right in the game. the redbrook (cd music) is better anyways ;)

besides that the game is running great for me. hasnt crashed once.

I'll have to try it out. I've been meaning to install some "fog" games onto the P4P800d/ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. When I get the chance, I want to install Red Faction and StarTrek: Bridge Commander , both of which have good fog and mist parts.

If you don't mind me saying so, D2 is an excellent game, but so is D3. The reason why I can't get D2 to work on my computer is that it doesn't recognize my USB flightstick in Windows XP. Other than that, the game runs a little hyper but still works at full potential. The downfall of D3 in my opinion was the graphics, as in doors :scratch:,but only because the engine was a bit rushed. Now imagine the same game with graphics similar to Ace Combat 04 and the same plot as the original two but had the objective-based gameplay it originally has.

What also sux is that Interplay wants no one to even attempt to mention D4. I'm betting it was the new person in charge who took over in between D2 and 3. But anyway, my favorite ship out of the whole Descent series is the Pyro-GXB (Black Pyro)!!! What's yours?
