Hey everybody,

Fed up with pricey inkjet refills and even pricier inkjet cartridges, I have ditched my inkjet printers (Lexmark Z11, then a Lexmark Z45) in favour of a Samsung ML-1740 laser printer.

One thing I like about my new laser is the fact that the drum and the toner comprise one unit costing $85CDN. My previous laser printer, a Brother HL-630, blew one drum ($199.99CDN) under warranty and a second drum two years later (bought the Z11 instead of getting this fixed), while its toner cartridges were $49.99CDN.

While surfing eBay, I see auctions for toner refill kits selling for dirt cheap ... four refill kits for about $30CDN. That is potentially 12,000 pages worth of printing.

Anyone have any experience and/or feedback regarding the refill of toner cartridges? Do the same "problems" related to the refilling of inkjet cartridges apply? (ie. cartridge does not perform as well, shorter cartridge life, risk of damaging printer)

Thanks

I have never refilled one, but some of the older office style copiers required bulk toner and that was a mess. Your printer sounds like our old HP laser. You replace the cartridge and you just about have a new unit. I guess if the toner was bad or wrong for the unit you could just spick up a new cartridge and be all happy agian.
