What's the weather like? Up here it's a muggy day with the sun shining. About 30C and 90% humidity. Time to sit on the deck and raise a few of your favorite.

Cheers all

Well after two mornings of heavy frost and with last night dipping below freezing I guess it's safe to say that winter is around the corner.

Now it's time for another passion of mine - snowmobiling :chit: All I need is 12" of snow and I'll be set :D

We just finished with the monsoon season so things are starting to cool down a bit. Only expecting low 90's for the rest of the week, sunshine every day.

Sigh there's been so much rain around here recently I'm beginning to think we live under the see, peeking out of our window. We haven't really had a summer, just rain, though I would only moan that its too hot. Some snow (for a week) would make a nice change! Eva 2000 would have a name for a pommie like me, when it comes to the weather, we are never happy - but sometimes we should remember to be thankful for what we do get.

BB_One - - I would rather shovel than rake leaves - blasted things get every where. I like fall but it has not been much of one with temps dropping below freezing overnight and it barely makes it to double digit temps in the day. If it's going to be cold then let's get on with it and snow. I get a little excited to know that winter is just around the corner and I'll be ripping around the trails.

glorfy - typical English weather? Makes up for last summer I bet. Our summer has been abissmal - one to erase from memory.

RH - what kind of weather report is this  "Sunny 86°F Feels Like 85°F". Is this because of a wind chill factor or an arid-dex factor? I've been in your area before (March-April-ish) and want to visit again. What's the weather like over the winter? if it stays at 90F with sunshine then I should make my way down.
PS - what is a "monsoon" by your reckining?

RotorHead
10-03-2004, 10:51 AM
Its crazy down here, according to the “Heat Index” it actually feels cooler then what it is. Since the humidity is so low, any sweat is evaporated very quickly so you feel cooler.

I’ve seen the humidity levels drop down to single digit numbers.

The winter down here is strange also, it can get below freezing at night then back up to the mid 60’s during the day. Very wide temperature swings.

The Monsoon season starts around mid August and runs into early October. This is when the warm humid air comes up from south west or east. We get very heavy but isolated thunder storms. This accounts for about 85% of our annual rainfall which leads to flash flooding, copious amounts of lightning, and some hail.

Funny story, when I first moved here and into the house, my family was still in Florida. Living by myself, I only used one of the bathrooms in the house. I had noticed a smell of sewage coming from one of the other bathrooms and when I went in, all the water had evaporated from the toilet bowl, very strange. So I had to make sure I used the other toilets in the house, ensuring water stayed in the bowl.

Sounds like an interesting place to be. I heard of traps evaporating even up here but only after a place has not been used for some time.

I've been there when the humidity level is next to nothing and temps over 100F. Absolutely gorgeous out on the patio with a beer and outdoor AC.

Sounds a little too cool for a winter visit, though. Thought it would be neat to see X-mas lights on catii  .

Rotorhead..LOL! well I have lived through that kind of weather all year round for 10 years or so ( Lived in the Middle East and Africa). Seen many days of sunshine...so back to Canada kind of makes for fun actually and diversity in terms of weather. Nice place you live.

Glorfy, I can honestly say that not one single time that I went through your country did I ever see sunshine....mind you often I was only stuck in Heathrow...but laddy honestly I don't think I could live in your country. I was asked to transfer to Farnsborough for 2 years and I decline!

Snafu, Ya I am obviously pulling your leg....winter not half bad specially in the country. BTW, we started getting below 0c temp at night since mid August up here...not every night but many nights..enough in fact to blast away the garden!

Snafu
10-03-2004, 06:57 PM
BB_One,
Below 0 in August - okay I'll admit that's a bit too early for me  . Not much chance for much to grow when it gets that cold. Fall is nice during the day when the sun is out and the air is crisp but shivering in August is just not right.
Sounds like you get stationed all over the place. Are you now stationed up in northern Quebec? One day I am hoping to make a sled trip across the border. I hear the trails are fantastic and probably better than over here.
Bon soir

Did travel extensively was working for an International Company in the Telecommnunication/Network Sales & Engineering field. Now settled at home and enjoying life....actually not that far north from Montreal only a 100 km...so what the heck is/was this freezing nights in August?? go figure...dunno. Was minus 4 c last night and seems to head same way again tonight.

Trails, better then ur end? Frankly dunno...but if they are anything like the roads...crap someone is lying to u..lol! :yikes:

However given the fact that the sport is very popular here, trails maintained by Snowmobile associations and the Goverment got nothing to do with it, I bet the trails are better then our roads also. :rotflmao:

Well the worst winter storm warning is out for my area. Minimum of 6" of snow that has already fallen when I woke up and it is still snowing :D . They called for 6-12" of snow when it is all down. After it dumps on us they are telling us that temps will drop like a rock - highs for tomorrow is -5C and drops to -9C on X-mas.

I was thinking of swapping to the new purple stuff. I hear that it runs better than Amsoil synthetic.

This little toy has 600cc, 2-stroke with head kit, clutch kit, carbide picks (96-144 depending on the season) and puts out about 115hp. Haven't a chance to run the quarter yet but it should do well as it is geared for accelerating out of corners and not for its top speed (tops out at 100mph when running on lakes)

One really good way to make winter fun :D

Haha!

Yeah, cold weather sucks. You're getting what I've had for over the last week. Out here in Minnesota, it would be around -10F or so at night or in the morning, sometimes getting as low as -15 at night. For about a week, the highest temp we saw was 2F, then yesterday it hit 6F.

Currently 18F, but very windy.

For the last week I've been wishing I was home in MI because the weather there has been warmer (last week Wednesday when I got back from work at 11PM, it was -8F here, and 28F at home), but now it's colder in MI.

Oh, and if you want heat, I can spare some, but only at certain points during the day. ;) The heating system in my dorm is very weird, and at some points in the day it'll get very hot in my room (when i woke up this morning, my room was at least 80F) and other times it'll get very cold in here from lack of heat. If only they could maintain a constant temp of about 65 to 70 here...

This morning, when I went out to my truck at 6AM, it was 0F, windchill -25F. Proceeded to brush the little snow off of my truck. There was so much wind, that there wasn't much snow left on my truck. I then proceed to survey the parking lot to see which way would be the easiest way to get out, with the least chance of getting stuck.

Sh*t. Path A has a 2 1/2 foot deep snow drift. Path B has a 2 foot snow drift. (We got about 8 inches of snow overnight.) So, Path B it is.

I then proceed towards said 2 foot snow drift. Sh*t. I bottomed out. I'm stuck. I don't have 4-wheel drive, and either way, 4-wheel drive is useless as **** on a boar hog, IMO. 4-wheel drive is too overrated.

Anyways, I go to the next lot over where maintainance is plowing, and ask if I can borrow a shovel. The guy then radios for the other guy, who is driving the huge tractor, with a very large snow blower attached to the front, to go to the lot where I'm at and to blow out the lot.

I walk back with the shovel in hand, and start digging out my truck, while the rest of the lot gets cleaned up.

Yeah, I was late for work.

And, yeah, said snowplow doesn't do all that great of a job, as evidenced by the 3 inch layer of snow on the lot.

Looks like Katrina has moved a bit east of what was expected which should help N.O. out. It will help me out to living in Lafayette Parish. The winds are now about 30-35 MPH here but that should be as bad as it gets. So at least on my end looks as if we have dodged the bullet. Now time for me to check and see if work is still on today which I doubt because the route I work is in a worse situation.

Pretty much the same picture here.. all day long, just finished snowveling the driveways...Total I estimate around 6 to 8 inches.

As usual great motorists did their stuff, 40+ cars pile up on highway 40, luckily no body seriously hurt, add to that over 100+ car that went in the ditches across the province...now we can say winter started and as usual, people left putting the snow tires on for the last minute and got caught !:hide:

Snafu

Well 6" started the day and it kept squalling all day long. Shovelled the walkway 3 times and it is still filled in :irk: I am hope we can drive over the stuff in the driveway.

We received far more than they were predicting. There is at least 12" on the roads and 3-4' drifts. So what else was I to do?

Right after supper I headed for the garage and pulled out a sled for a little fun :D

First time I ever beat my neighbor to be the first out on the roads. Met up with him at his place and we toured the area. If we had more gas we would have headed to the local coffee house (20km away).

Here's a shot of our sleds and my neighbor.

Man I wish I lived in your area ;) , we've had nothing but precipitation for the last 27 days. Where I live(North Vancouver), we had and evacuation order to leave at any given time due to the rain soaked mountain side. I thought "oh great, here we go again". Last year on almost the exact day, a school teacher lost her life to a mud slide in the same area and her husband was seriously injured. The rain has slowed down since, but we (North Vancouver) almost broke a 53 year old record for the most consecutive days of rain in a row (29 days).

Tornot has snow? The world must be coming to and end  I was honestly surprised to hear about TO. Folks have been saying there was nothing south of Hwy 7 and Ottawa got mostly rain. A lot of the roads around here are closed and the plows have been pulled off the roads (too dangerous to drive). Even my wife couldn't make it back home from work in a Subaru while there was still daylight and only a 15 minute drive away.

I thought you woudl like to see this shot of the drift I have been battling with for the past two days (that's teh shovel I have been using to fight this beast). The drift is intent on taking over the whole deck. I wouldn't worry about it if only the dog would learn to use the toilet

This morning I actually got my truck stuck. I was in deep snow with some drifts as high as my hood. I was approaching the road had to slow down because I couldn't see if the way was clear to keep going. Sure enough the truck got caught up in the snow (the underside was plowing it) After a few tries I was able to dig it out with a snow brush and force my way through in low 4wd.

Will be an interesting ride to work tomorrow if the roads are open.

Well fun day at the beach it was - but RyderOCZ's contact with God took care of the sweet revenge. Lats night we ended up with a ThunderStorm of the kind I have not seen in many many moons - Fireworks in the sky for 2 + hours and thunder galore. Must say that the view frankly was incredible, man would I not want to get hit by one of those spikes coming down on eath - brrrrewwwww scary.

I any case it was good enough to take out the power for 7 hours !

Mikki asked me about snow the other day.....so after cleaning the driveway from this weekends "Blizzard", as the weathermen called it, I thought I would take some pics.

It was referred to as a Blizzard apparently due to sustained winds in excess of 25 Mph and very cold temps mixed with heavy snowfall in some areas. We only saw about 8 - 10 inches since Friday night, but some areas received as much at 18+.

High's all weekend have been in the single to lower double digits with Windchill easily into the -10 and lower ranges.

My little corner of snow covered Michigan:

WooHoo! They are calling for 1" an hour until the storm is done! Shoveled off 6" already this am and by the time I was done the front and the deck out back there was another 2" on the front walkway.

Thought I would check up on things before the power goes out (touch wood that it doesn't :bonk: )

I wonder how Ryder and Rukee are fairing in the storm?

RyderOCZ
12-16-2007, 06:33 AM
A solid 6" for sure here, probably more, but with the wind and all the houses, some spots are still bare, so it is really hard to tell. Wind gusts in the high 20's/low 30's are making it feel quite cold out there. Visisbility is maybe a couple 1000 feet, less sometimes. Drifts in the backyard are topping the 16" mark and growing.

Still coming down, but not too fiercely. You are probably picking up a bit more as it moves over the lake, then dumps on you.

7 day says its tapering off today, next chance of accumulation is starting Thursday next week and through the weekend.

Nothing higher than 32 predicted through next Sunday  Looks to be a real white Christmas (touch wood) which makes me happy :wpleased:

Weird winter so far this year. Around the start of each month we get a nice snow storm dumping loads of snow. Then towards the end of each month there is a thaw with rain making most if not all of the snow disappear :irk:

Around 10pm last night I went out to shovel 12" of snow off the driveway and it was still snowing like a banshee. Got up this morning and we have another 4" to shovel out. The worst is the end of the driveway where the plow left us a 4' high mound to get rid of. I aint going no where til I get it cleared
