I currantly have a Nvidia Geforcefx 5900xt from bfg tech that was already oc'ed from its stock settings of 390mhz core to 430 and 700mhz memory to 736mhz but I even took it futher to 480mhz on the gpu core and 831mhz on the memory and am wondering if can fry my video card by doing this even if I am not messing with the voltages the video card is currantly running fine.

if it is running ok with no artifacts or crashes to desktop i would think it would be ok. keep an eye on yur temps just incase. BEWARE though, there is always a risk oc'ing anything, just keep that in mind. :thumb:

Thanks Flexkill all my temperatures are fine but I don't know about the video card is there anyway to check the temperature on it and as far as I have heard you should be ok overclocking as long as you don't mess with voltages I just had to double check though.

unfortunately, i don't know of a way to see the temp underload. but yes you can check yur temps right after a game. this is how you get to the temps. right click on desktop, choose settings tab, then hit advanced tab, then you should see a tab with your card's name. choose that and you will find the temps selection to view yur card's temp's. hope that helps ya :thumb: BTW :welcome: to the BE. great to have you hear. this is a great site with friendly people who really know their stuff. also nice clock on that card...WTG

Thanks again Flexkill I am at 491mhz core and 850mhz on the memory now but I can't seem to find the temperature for my video card in the place you told me to go and also what are high temperatures for video cards when I do find them and what temperature should I try and be in?

well for me i like to keep mine under 50c. it duz go over sometimes rarely though. thats why i was asking about cooling my self. you can see my thread about it in this forum. jim gave me the hook up as usual. make sure yur using latest drivers. check out (gurue 3D.com) just google it. they always have the latest drivers even before nvidia officialy releases them. trust me the new 6171 drivers rock. heres some screenies with the new drivers(this is with my BFG5950 ultra with 6171 drivers)!!! :thumb:

Thanks Subsider I actually had to lower the core to 470 for it to not artifact but then that let my raise my memory to 910mhz before the artifacts started comeing back and now the question is how do I check the temps on this card.

anothe way to monitor your temp is to attach a thermalprobe to the back of the GPU with doublesided thermal tape and you will be able to take a glance to check to see if it is all ok. i used this method with a Ti4200 i had when i had the core clocked at 320mhz (cooled with an athlon 1800xp heatsink and fan)
