I will include pics hopefully by this weekend since I need a new digi cam. I decided to post in the private area since this is part of my FW strategy. I vodded my 8800GTX. :mischeif: I have only done the core so far and it works great! I also installed an adapter so I could easily read the voltages. ;) So far my gpu has gone from 691 core (absolute max on 10lbs ice in the cooler) and last night I was able to run 741 with chilled water (I might hit 750 same voltages with full on ice water). Stock voltage unloaded was approx. 1.39v. I hit 741 at 1.45 even 1.5 didn't make a differance. So now either more ice in the bucket or shader clocks. My goal will be to run all my testing. Once it's done then I might go for the vmem mod. I was VERY reluctant because this is would be soldering to the smallest component I have ever attempted but I do no feel very confident in my soldering skills. :D

Holy $&^%%$#!!! You either have huge faith/lack of fear or you are just trying your best to take Nutcase's name. :coocoo: :coocoo: :coocoo:

How hard was the Vmod for the core to do? I haven't even looked around to see how hard it would be.
WTG Harley, you'll be kicking butt now! :thumb:

JL ehhh I guess I am in lack of fear mode. Then again I am afraid with the mem mod. I have even seen posts in mod thread noting what a small area it is you need to solder to.
Pointhore if you have done mods before I think it is actually pretty easy. Then again with my old iron tip I had I more then likely would have killed it. Now using the micro tip I have sort of developed a technique that seem to work. I tin the wiring (only about 1/16th of an inch exposed from the insulation. I then put it near the mod point heat it up and stick it. Seems to be going well for me. :thumb:
Mod guide I used lots of pics not 56k friendly. (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=144851)

Thanks for the link.
I've done plenty of motherboard mods but never attempted to do any video cards. Boards are cheap compared to video cards. It scares the crap out of me every time I touch a soldering iron to any of those small components.
I screwed up my fair share of motherboards with the mods but had fun doing them. :fire:

what i found the best to work for me is to tin the wire and also to add the tiniest bit of solder to the component you will be soldering onto.
this provides a good "stick" for the newly added tinned wire

Agree with you there shim. With larger components I try and do the same. Ryder nice shot. Any better pic of the mem mod? It appears yours might be in a differant area then I have been looking. Also any reason you used the measue point on the right and not the one on the left?

Mine is an 8800GTS 320, so not sure if the IC for the Mem mod is in the same place on the GTX?
Nope, no reason, they both read the same, I just got it soldered to that one easier.
Mem mod is on top of card, my vGPU is the one bottom left.
Then here is a pic of the other card..... everything went to hell, 3 components missing now :(

Wow that pic looks like one of my older cards when I first attempted soldering. Where they just pads and traces? It appears they where if so find someone with a GTS to track them. I saw one where I guy repaired a card by soldering wires to bypass burnt traces. :yup:

The brown spots are the one end of (from left to right: resistor, resistor, automated measure point (one of those silver discs for use during manuf.), capacitor.
The other ends of the components are still there and are solderable. When my new card gets here, I will be measuring the values and trying to locate components to do just what you talked about. I need to run a wire from the one pin of that IC you can see where I have already tried to solder over to the second pin "around the corner" to the left in the pic, then attach these components to it, thus re-creating the trace.
Hopefully it will go well :D

Up to 758 core. Still just cool water but am learning alot about shader clocks. :mischeif: They where holding me back. I am putting together a small guide about what I have found. I need to wait till I boot up the bench rig again for some screenies but more then likely anyone running a card that has shader clocks can easily improve their scores. ;) Stock my card was 576/1350(shader)/900. Before benching it was 741/1728/1101(I found was actually 1080 :yikes: ). I am currently benching it 758/1728/1117. Notice one spec hasn't changed ;) which seems to be a magic number. Hopefully I will get up a quick guide today. :thumb:
Ryder: Even if it doesn't work I want to see pics of it with the resistors and cap soldered in. GL on it!! :thumb:

Darn, These mods use the Only pots I don't have right now :irk:
guess I will have to run to fry's and pick some up. I have close to 80 pots laying around and not ONE the right type! :beat: :beat:

man... dunno if i should attempt this mod... argh...
and why does ryder have an eVGA 8800 and nutcase an Asus 8800...
so confused...y'all should have OCZ 8800's like me and hb...
edit: because it's the best... right guys?

reason we do not have them is they would not let us have a set :(
I actually have 1 asus and 1 BFG for SLI. ;)
I am still trying to sweet talk them out of a Cryo-Z. I would love to see how the Cryo-Z stands up against my Vapochill LS. :deviltail

w-t-f?
they give you guys all this ram to test yet they would hand over a 500 videocard?
crazy OCZ!! :D
i still can't believe i have an OCZ videocard but no OCZ memory :O

Ahhhh shim ya went for the OCZ huh? It seems just crazy fast knowing I hit 1170-1224 mem speed and have flashed to tighter timings!! Once photobucket is running I will show some pics of a chilly card. :mischeif: Now to find an OVP. :irk:

Two pics immediately after my AM3 run. This is an old tube I had around back from my X850XT. The mount doesn't work so zip ties is how I fastened it. It has a MAZE4 gpu as the base. The tube from KP should be on it's way tomorrow so hopefully it will run better temps. since these are all over the place :rotflmao: Shim you know you wanna do the mod! :mischeif: All the ice on the card and the only time condensation is a problem is when it drips off the tube and onto the mobo. :D

Just an update with some further testing last night:
I played around a bit last night to learn the card better. I easily pulled a 930 core in nature :yikes: at 4800Mhz. and ram not optimized I got 969. I had some problems getting past DL at settings that ran smoothly the previous night so I need to play around with the cpu at a later date and find max settings to run it at then go for 3d again at a later date. I did learn the card can run colder then -80 ;) and have ran the vgpu up to 1.64 so hopefully next time will be better :thumb: . Unfortunately I will be back in waiting mode since the tube needed to return to it's owner. :(
