I'm curios, how many of you have seperate hard drives strickly for benchmarking?

What would be a good average size for a benching hdd?

I use a 20gig, but I think that's overkill.

I think most people have seperate hdd's unless they bench with their everyday pc. I use different hdd's with different OS's on them and if I'm going to run PCmark I'll set up a drive just for that because it requires so much crap that other benches don't need.

Is RAID0 beneficial in benchmarks other than PCMark?

Thanks Top Game, Crystalmark totally slipped my mind. :o I was thinking more of the Futuremark products.

Would WinRar be considered one of them ?

As far as crystalmark I think the three parts of the bench used for fw would not be affected.

SG: 20 is overkill but works fine. I have a few of them myself. :chit:

top game 22: I am jealous of the three raptors in raid0. I have two raptors to set up raid0 but it will be strictly for PCMark then they will go back to being individual benching drives.

i-ram agree

Funny with all this going on, I was looking for another benching hdd and came across my old Voodoo 5 5500PCI, so I decided to pull it out and do a 3DMark01 bench.

Scored 2570 all stock, including PC. This should funny for an hwbot submit. Oh yeah and the other hdd I did end up finding, though it is a 30gig.

EDIT:
Another thing, do you guys have an OS on each of the drives, or just a bench program, while using another seperate drive with an OS on it?

I-ram is great and I am still thinking about grabbing one to try but......FM does not allow I-ram scores although hwbot does. ;) So if you do bench with I-ram make sure you screenie it including the breakdown of your score along with scoring. I would also suggest posting in the description the i-ram drive was used.

SG: I do have the OS loaded on other drives. Best grouping I could see would be as follows: (Mind you I don't use this many drives loaded but just a suggestion if you have them laying around) :yup:

1 Drive w/ windows 2000 for 3Dmark2001 but only if you are benching older cards. Newer cards seem to do just fine with WinXP.

1 Drive w/ windows 2003 server for benching super pi

1 Drive w/ windows XP for any other 3Dmark testing

2 Drive raid0 w/ vista for running PCMark05

Nope no i-ram yet since I just picked up a new PSU. Maybe some raptors in Raid0 if it helps. ;)

Well I found another drive for benching :wpleased: 3gig a little small maybe?

Oh yeah and I nailed 6th for my Voodoo 5 5500 at stock :wpleased:

Depending on what benchmarks you are doing SG a larger disk, even two can be useful. I was able to shave 22 seconds off a 32M SuperPI run by using Copy Wazaa. It consists of copying a LARGE file or folder of files from one disk to another and hitting start on your run just as the file completes copying. The folder/file in my case was over 4GB. Also Page files may need a little room to work in as well for some benchmarks.
