How is everything wired up?
I just tried mine and realised that I did not install the "SoundsMAX 4XL" software to use the boards sounds :o (nothing but hisses).

I'm assuming the speakers are okay and have the right resistance.

I wonder if you have to enable instant music in the bios under the advanced menu?

I think under the preferences/listening environment you need to use the 6-speaker setting (rear, front and centre) looks like it might be more compatible as teh blue becomes the rear out, green the front out and the pink is fo the centre/bass/amp.

Just thoughts as I have not installed the drive to run the on-board sound myself. I nothing works I will see about installing the drivers and giving it a try myself. :thumb:

I hear your pain with the on board sound. There are so many controllers for volume that it is probably one of these lurking around that puts the on-board sound on mute or is over-ridden by the PCI sound card.

Drop a post if you find anything or if they still do not work (coudl you hook them up to your old sound card as a test?)

My FSB situation is a little touchy :D. I have PAT enabled and I am sure the EBs can far exceed 235. Unfortunately, the 3.0C seems to be a slight dud - its choking the FSB. A number of folks are hitting the 235 ceiling with some of these 3.0C. I must be one of them. I have not taken off the stock heat sink to confirm its dud-ness (not sure if I want to know). If its confirmed then I will probably start considering a proc update - want to see where prescotts are going and maybe if the EE's come down they could be a possibility (I am probably dreaming right now).

I have a few tricks left to try but have not had the time to mess with it lately (Folding). I want to order some parts, clean-up the inside all for better cooling before I start trying to push it higher. A new HSF, Ram cooling and another drive (to back up my raid). The case has a good set of fans and air moves fairly well but I want to look at a little better cooling solution just before the EBs start to glow.

Puzzling.

I'll install the drivers and see if I can get mine running. Not sure exactly when but hopefully within a couple of days. I'll post what I can find out.

I just discovered that I did not even have my speakers hooked up right to the audigy sound card (lol). I cannot even find the colour code to tell me which outputs are what. I looked at Audigy and Soundblaster websites but they do not list my card. It is an older Audigy ES (non-boxed so I don't have the manual). Nothing on the site explains the colour code assuming they are standard.

I snuck away for a bit and got the SoundMAX driver installed. After a reboot I hooked up the centre/sub-pink, front-green and rear-blue connections. For "Sound and Audio Dvices" in the control panel set the default for sound playback, sound recording and midi playback to SoundMAX (from the Audigy card).

Ran the wizard and set up the speakers (5.1). Centre and rear did not play any sound in the test mode (?) but when playing a music CD they were working fine and were controlable with the wired remote. Also tried 2-speaker mode and both left front and rear were working.

I'm puzzled why even your Bostons are not working. Are there any settings in the soundMAX control panel, that appear odd. The digital output only setting will only work if you have a true digital sound (not many out there I hear) and if set I know you will not hear a thing.

An enigma for sure. I'm hoping others will read and jump in with some suggestions cause I'm not sure what's wrong.

Puzzling still. After loading the drivers so you see soundMAX as an option for sound output device? When I open the control panel I now have an ico to soundMAX control board.

I hear there are two types of digital speakers out there. SOme do not work if using digital output. Not really sure why. Did you try analog output? Stupid question of course. I'm sure you are trying everything even uninstalling everything and reinstalling just the driver for the onboard sound.

I hope you find the problem.

PS - found the Audigy manual on teh driver disk. When running teh driver CD it does not offer you the manul as an option. I stumbled across it when I explored the CD. Not the smartest way to make the manual know. My card is puzzling. It says I have a 24-bit card but Sandra only says its 16-bit. .

Copy the folder with the sound drivers of adi 1985 from your p4c800-e cdrom somewhere in your disk drive (e.x. Desktop). Then download the new drivers from asus ftp ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/adi/1985/1985WDM_3713.zip extract with winrar and copy paste them in the folder of the old drivers on your Desktop. Say yes to replace some old previous drivers. Uninstall the old drivers and install clicking setup the drivers in the Desktop. All the sound problems will dissapeard. (I made this with a Asus p4p800 se with success, it use the same onboard sound , adi 1985). :)
