OK, that’s it, I’m done with air cooling!!

Got tired of my loud @SS fans on the dually rig, two screaming YS-Tech 60mm 43CFM fans is just too much to take.

I’m just going to have to live with higher temps and lower OC, not that it was high to begin with, dropped it down to 145FSB for a cooler quieter 1.37Ghz. With all fans at 7V, temps are in the high 40’s under load, I can live with that on a PIII-s

I can’t wait to move and start working on my next computer with a nice quiet water cooling setup….oooohh it’s going to be stupid quiet!!

rotorhead ~ case cooling is an artform. it takes many hours of tweeking and testing to get the best from it (i should know Mikki has me doing a case cooling article)

randomly adding fans to a case is not a good idea and could easily RAISE your temps. (yes i have proof)

get some good coolers that can mount 80mm fans~
install a 120mm blowhole in the top of the case~ (pana L1A)

that will get you 90% of the way there and quietly :-)

Ya I know, I’m sort of limited on my cooling solution with the socket 370 dually. Most of the good heatsinks are to big to fit my board. My case has excellent stock cooling, LiteOn FS020, and with the 120’s running at 7V it’s quiet except for the CPU fans which I have running at 7V also. I can actually here my 10k SCSI drive now…woohoo! :D http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=177

Mikki told me about your optimum set up with inlet holes on the side with no fans…etc.

I’ll be getting into the cooling and case modding hot and heavy once I get out to Arizona…hehe, not the best place for air cooling mind you :)

you can always work on some way to mount better fans on your current heatsinks. (zalman fan bracket w/a single 120mm fan maybe?)

I can vouche for how loud that thing is....IMO it's the cpu fans :eyepop: It's the loudest system I've ever heard....:p

Thats a thought, but it might have a problem with the two 120s in the back and I don't think it would be big enough to span the two CPUs.

I think the two fans got this harmonic thing going, that just makes it worse.

ok in that case ~ try 2 quiet 60mm fans on each cooler?

(next to each other ~ not on top of each other)

<EDIT> just took a close looksee at your case mod pics ~ there gotta be a way to get bigger fans on those things.

Kinda what I got with the CPU fans running at 7V.

It's hard to find quiet 60s that put out decent airflow. :(

I have seen someone put an 80mm fan diagnally on a SK7, wonder if that will work on the SK6+?

RH

Thanks for the move, was actually thinking of that myself :)

diagonal ~ yea that should work with a few tweeks.

better 80mm coolers would be best ~ but when concidering "a pair of them", that can get expensive.

Another thought would be to employ a bracket such as the one bigtoe uses here (http://www.bleedinedge.com/reviews/ax4spemax/aopen_ax4spemax_pg1.html)...it looks a bit messy but bigger fans wouldn't be a problem...

i remember my 1st delta 60mm fan ~ thats the fan that broke the camels back and made me determined to make a quiet (panaflo) system.

thats the zalman bracket Mikki ;)

but RH is right ~ i dont think a single 120mm fan will cover / cool well enough.
maybe 2 80mm fans on a single bracket? but he may as well try and mount the 80s directly on there 1st.

where theres a will, theres a way! :-)

my case cooling mods are paying off....
an extra fsb on same vcore :-)
(try for 2fsb?)

Whoa!! You hit 3.5ghz!!! Cool! Congrats!

Yeah, the Zalman....I've got one if you want to borrow it RH...like Thugs said, where there's a will there's a way, and I'll bet you could figure out a way...;)

Some 80s would definitely help, but one of the sockets has a cap right next to it, so close that I had to modify the retention clip.

I wonder if I switched back to an alpha pal6035 with a 80-60 fan adapter how my temps would be.

Kinda ironic that a 5 year old heatsink can keep up with the new ones. I ran my iwill dvd266 for a long time with only one cpu and the alpha and temps were in the low 40s when clocked up to 151fsb

RH ~ that was reason #1 why i ran slot1 p3s ;)

i used a huge alpha pal with dual 60mm panaflos, no cpu backplate and an exaust fan right behind it :-)

(never had a problem ~ p3 750@1050)

There is somthing to be said about those Alpha guys.

I'd like to get hold of some of thier other designs and try them out....hehe could be intresting. :)

And nice OC you got there thugs
