I hope this isn't in the wrong place. When I was a mod I'd just move a post to the right place. But that's not the point. You've heard the phrase "like butter". I never used it much until the last few days. 64 bit Vista Ultimate, the latest chipset and video drivers. A good shakedown at Speedguide and PC Pitstop. An application of CCcleaner and a double dose of diskeeper, including adjusting the mft size and boot time defrag. Ad Aware SE and a double check by the paid version of AVG and the change is dramatic. It's fast, smooth, and by hooking both nics into the router it's a pleasure to surf the net.
Here's most of my specs, let me know if I forget anything:
AMD Crosshair mobo
AMD X64 dual core 4600+
2 gb Corsair XMS DDR PC 800
2 WD 150 gb Raptor Sata drives
All 14 million bios settings set to auto
A cool Saitek illuminated keyboard
An Antek mid-tower that sucks low in front and blows high in back
No sound at the moment because Creative is too lazy to get 64 bit drivers ready
Logitech 2 button USB track ball And a nice, fast Viewsonic AVX922 lcd.

So if you're in the market for some more advice, get Vista Ultimate and make it work. It can be done. The fun days of tweaking and comparing are back.

Been running Vista for a while now, also have my primary work machine running Ultimate also. Definitly a nice OS, but in the corportate world, there are definitly programs that do not like it. :yup:

But for home use, it Rocks. . . . .
