Since I hit the FSB ceiling I was thinking of replacing the stock heat-sink with something new in hopes that a cooler proc will allow a few more oc’s. Looks like Aluminum is the better way to go. Two questions:
1. How much does it weigh?
2. Do the heat pipes still work efficiently if they are not vertical?
I am hoping you do not have to lay the case on its side for the heat pipes to work properly or efficiently. :rotflmao:
I was trying to decide between another Thermaltake Cu unit (for P4s 478) with 3 heat pipes or Zalman 7000-Cu (no heat pipes). Both weigh over the recommended 450g for adding weight to the MoBo but the Thermaltake unit is slightly less. How doe sone support the weight of these copper heat sinks (suspended by wires???)
Thanks for posting the picks.

xp-120 weighs 250g less than SP-94 not sure about the rest
Wow that is one behemoth of a heatsink!
Damn, look at the size of that pipe. . . :mischeif: ;)
Wonder if it fit's any mb's and how good it cools.

Thats huge.......hmm ill see how well my SP-94 fits on my board and then if it has enough room i might upgrade to the SP-120 sometime down the track, just for the weight reduction

Couldn't wait. I just ordered a Zalman 7000-AlCu. Now that I have placed the order the XP-120 will come out in a week or two  :rotflmao: . Always happens (murphy's law).

The Zalamn or the XP120? :D
Not sure on the XP as it has not been released yet. With my luck it will be released when the Zalman arrives. :beat:
The Xp-120 is being released soemtime next week. It's already up on the thermalright website.

But of course. I ordered the Zalman and it arrived just last week so now Thermalright releases the XP-120 :beat: :bonk: .
Anybody want anything released? I will go out and pick up the latest component and within a couple of weeks a newer component is released  :rotflmao: .

im not sure weather to laugh or be impressed :coocoo:
fits an Ic7?
(looking at a Ic7 pic) yea i suppose it would.
since i am already using a SP-94, i wouldnt have to remove the moboard to (re)install the backplate and standoffs ~ it would be a simple swap out of just the HS.
hmmmmm :suspect:
EDIT: aw d@mn, it uses the plastic mount not standoffs :(
Ok guys, I have some info for you.

Any ideas on Gigabyte compatibility????
In case you guys are wondering, the XP-120 will not be compatible with the Swiftech MCX159, but will fit with the Thermalright NB-1C without the fan. I got that information direct from Thermalright.

Unfortunately they would not take my postal code to find out the shipping cost (seems they don't ship up north  ).

 . Didn't think I was "international". Just a little further north. I just tell the courier driver to turn north when they reach Buffalo. They seem to find me.
FrozenCPU will ship up here fairly cheap and quick. Just checked and they're still out. Maybe tomorrow?
The link your provided are really good! The heat-pipes run differently than I thought. I wonder which way is up on this thing with the long pipes pointing down or up. Still can't figure out how the liquid cools and reaches the base of the cooler  .
Great find, Jim. Too bad I already preordered from Heatsinkfactory, which billed my credit card but still doesn't have any in stock. Should be shipped out on 7/30 if their ETA is accurate.

Just orderd mine at www.bigfootcomputers.com. For any of you Canadians out there, they have it in stock already. Site said they had 10 last night. I orderd one and I guess someone else did too. So they have 8.
Probably get it next week sometime.
What kinda CFM do you recommend with this HSF??

I recall that it will take up to a 120mm fan. I was thinking of the Vantec Stealth. Its 53cfm at 1500rpm, 0.96w and 28dBA (dbl ball bearings). I think it's a really quiet fan (but then I am comparing to the stock intel cpu fan  - what a piece of... :shhh: ).
P.S. anyone want to but a brand new not out of the box Zalman 7000A-AlCU heat sink so I can get the xp120  :rotflmao: . I picked this up 1 week before the release date was announced. Always happens :beat: :beat: :beat: .
If you ever want anything to be released just let me know and I will buy the current version and sure enough a week or two later the new stuff will be out :rotflmao: .

I know just how you feel snafu with purchasing one model of heatsink and the one that really tickles you fancy is released a few days later. i just had this experience myself i ordered an SLK900A last week as i couldn't find the SP97 for socket A today i look at the site for the retailer i buy from and what hits me in the face as soon as i get to the cooling section right at the top of the page the goddamn SP97 and for $4 less than what i paid for the SLK900A which was $84NZD.......absolutely gutted back here :beat:

It happens. I thought I woudl offer my services to everyone. :D Let me buy the old stuff so you don't have to. Of course for a small fee :mischeif: .
I will probably pick one up and compare it against the 7000AlCu. May take a bit of time before I can post any results. Love to hear from others how well this cooler performs.

Just heard from www.FrozenCPU.com that they got stock. Listed at $49.00USD.
For the Canadian folks out there www.ADPmods.com also has stock for $68.95CDN.
A review of the XP-120 is out:
http://www.short-media.com/review.php?r=254
I've just discovered that by reversing my 120mm fan to suck instead of blow air onto the heatsink, both my case and CPU temps drop by a few degrees while idling and at load! I experimented after reading the review at Madshrimps, where they found that reversing the fan had a positive effect on temperatures. You guys should see which way works best for you and report back. :thumb:

Curious. Did you notice any change to the ram temp (by feel or otherwise?). JJMan posted that the ram ran cooler (if not cold) with his xp120. Hopefully reversing teh flow does not negate any cooling effect on teh ram (mind you those with the ST memory cooler have no worries, eh? :D: ).
Do you have a side fan and is it now an exhaust?
Hey Snafu, I didn't gauge the temp of the RAM before and after the fan reversal. But I'm not worried since I have the ST cooler anyways. :D I have a 120mm side fan which is directly above the video card and blows air onto it. There shouldn't be a conflict of airflow since they're not directly above one another.

I came across this review (http://www.silentpcreview.com/article186-page1.html) of the x120. Testing involved different fans and different flows - towards or away (aka suck or blow) and the impact of horizontal versus vertical orientation. A good article. The only downside is that the testing was done without a case and case airflow could impact the results.
