Hello to all
DO any of you guys use this heatsink and if so. Did you install the fan mate? Right now my running temps are at CPU @ 39 C/104 F and the MB 32 c/ 89.5 F. That is with out the fan mate installed. What would you say am I good with out the fan mate or should I give it a shot?
Thank you for your time and help

I'm using the same HSF without the fan mate running a Northwood 2.8C at around 25C idle and 38C full load (CPU temps) without a fan mate...it's all up to you my friend, if you find the fan noise objectinable then try a lower voltage with the fan mate you'll see some rise in your temps, but you have a long way to go before the temps are considered dangerously hot...that processor of yours is around 70 C before it begins to throttle the chips performance back.
Also before you make your choice what was the CPU max load temp (like running Prime95 or CPU Burn)? If it's breaking high 40 or low 50 degree C range then i'd leave it as is :thumb:

I am running prime now on system but it crashes on test 4. I have not found the right Vcore setting yet I am running
FSB 250, cpu 3.75 DDR volts are 2.85 DDR freg is 400, timing is 2.5-4-4-7.

I know you have been working alot with Hawk on this one Bob so I don't wnat to screw anything up, but I'm thinking you may have a hard time safely running a 250 fsb at a 1:1 ratio with the 3.0C, and the crash of prime kinda supports that...If you want to run that high of an FSB I'd personally cut back my memory to 333 that gives you a 5:4 ratio...also what Vcore voltage are you running?

it was set to auto so I really don't know what is was set to. and yes Hawk is the Man. I just want the best performance I can get. I really don't have my heart set on any of my settings. I am learning by my mistakes which is the best way uh,, This is all new to me. This being my first built.

Until you get a have a real feel for what your rig would do my suggestion either:
1) Try 240 FSB at 1:1 (400 Mhz with 2.85 volts) or
2) Keep 250 at 5:4 (333 MHz with 2.85 volts)
You have to find a stability point somewhere running Prime95 and then tweak upward (very slightly) from there. Make sure your AGP/IDE is locked at 66-33. Realize to stability is just as important as speed from my point of view any way.
... Yes, Hawk is definitely an overclocking Guru

the fact that you can even run prime to test 4 at 250 fsb with voltage set to auto is pretty amazing to me....sound's like you have a good oc'er on yur hand's, good luck!!!

Bob, are you running a 3.06 (A 533 FSB P4) or a 3.0C (800FSB)?

Thanks for the good luck Flexkill, Jim I have a 3.06 class C Northy chip. Hey Flexkill you have some pretty tough memory setting there. Looks like you have a great OCed rig there.

ya its ok, but you now the deal it's never enough.... :wpleased: this oc thing is sooooo addictive!!! i spend more time tweaking than i do actually using it...

Yes it is fun, Well Hawk and I finally find the sweet spot for this set-up. These are my settings.
250 FSB-3.78 CPU :fire:
DDR volts asre 2.85-Freg. 400
Vcore volts-1.55
Memory timing is set to 2.5-3-4-7
It run prime 95 for 48 hours no errors no reboots
I have not talked to Hawk since Friday. So I am not sure what the next step is going to be. But come Monday I will be back at OCing this rig and see what else I can do to test or tweak it. Plus I am busy this weekend laying down 300sq ft of tile on back porch.
Have fun talk to you later

when you get done tweaking you should give ghost recon a shot it is a fun thing to do when you are not tring to melt the cpu ;)

I know this is an oldish thread, but what cooling do you run Bob? At 3.78Ghz, are you actually getting 39C from the Zalman and case fans?!

NO, My temps at 3.78 were 54c. the 39c was at a lower setting. Those are cpu temps. But I most say that I am very pleased with the Zalman HS. Next rig I will be moving to a water base cooling.
