I have never overclocked anything, but is it reasonable to expect a 3+year life span from cpu/mobo thats overclocked from 2.8 to 3.5? I would be useing air cooling.

I don't think anyone here has ever owned the same cpu and mobo for three years. Actually, thats not true. I still have my BH6 with a P3 550 and my CUSL2 with a P3 1000 and they are both at default speeds now. They were overclocked but bragging about 550@600 and 1000@1100 just isn't any fun anymore when someone 5 minutes latter say 2.4@3.2.

Oh I am sorry. You question applies to the 2.8 processor. Just a second i will check my crystal ball. Damn....don't think it works anymore...overclocked the snowflakes from 9.6 m/s to 10.1 m/s and i think i lost a compressor.

LOL

if you are using default vcore it should last as long as any other chip.
if youre overvolting id say 3 years max ~ but well never know til those 3 years are up ;)

many B0 (older) P4 northwoods went to cpu heaven long ago.....

I agrtee with thugs...what is going to knock these things down are above default vcore and subjecting the cpu to high temps (+60's) for long periods....I would say most cpus probably when ran at spec should be 7-10years anyways....Mild overvolting like 1.6v actual or less I think you get 3 years easy....

For me I don't keep them longer then a year anyways....That is why ocing intrigues me so....Get more for what a paid for and save the dough...I have each time got a processor that was not the highest available at the time and clocked it to levels that could not be purchased at stock and usually cost 3x more then what I paid....You gotta love it!!!!!:yummy:
