Hi all.... I have a bit of a dumb question.... hopefully I am posting this in the right forum....
I recently bought myself a second DVD burner thinking that I would be able to burn contents of 1 DVD onto the new one without having to use my HDD.... I have an old system and have very limited disk space.... However when I use NERO, it still uses my Hard Drive which kind of defeats the purpose.... Please note that I am not using this to burn copyright movies.... I have taped a few soccer games during the WC on my DVD recorder and simply wanted to transfer them onto Read Only DVD's to free up the RW....
Can anyone help me with this????

Hello and :welcome: to BE HabsFan
So from what I understand your just trying to copying a dvd to a blank dvd?
Sorry I don't know much about burning from disk to disk, but I would asume that Nero would have some sort of option to choose where to get the burn info from...
HDD
CD ROM
DVD ROM
What version Nero are you running?

Hi thanks for the reply and the welcome
I am using Nero 6 ultra.... and that is correct, I am trying to burn from one disk to the other without using my HDD.... I'm starting to wonder if it is even possible anymore :(
When I initially tried to burn it, I selected the original DVD source, chose my new DVD drive location and started burning only to realize that Nero was creating a temp file on my HDD....

Just tried it again using a different method.... it allowed me to start recording from DVD to DVD but then failed after it created DVD borders????

I can tell you that Nero by defualt uses some hard drive space as a buffer for transfering information from disk to the other. Because of this you will see a slight reduction of disk space, but it shouldnt be more than 80mb or so.
As far as direct transfer straight from drive to drive, it could be that one of the drives isnt acting as fast in transfering or relaying info to the other drive.
A word of advice though. If you do direct transfer, make sure to burn the DVD's at 1x speed to reduce chances or one drive reading or wanting to write faster than the other drive can keep up.

Ah that might be it.... my source drive is a 4x and my destination drive is a 16x..... thanks for the advice!

i think it has to do with encoding and decoding the movie...there is software out there that does Clone the disk, but copyright laws prevent me from typing anymore.
I have a slightly different question, same area though.
I want to copy some of my DVD's onto my hard drive of my laptop so I don't have to travel with the actual DVD. I searched the web and a bunch of sites said
copy the dvd onto your computer, launch powerDVD, right click on powerDVD and point it to the folder for the movie and the main file (I forget what its called now) and powerDVD will play it................yeah well it won't. right click doesn't work in powerDVD. I went to the file the various sites said right clicked on it and used powerDVD to open it, but it wouldn't play. No error messages or anything, just wouldn't play.
Do I have to use DVDshrink or something similar to RIP it to my harddrive rather than just copy it to the harddrive?
A lot of forums address media center, if I was at home I could use the DVD, I'm trying to get it work in Professional.
TIA for anyone who can shed some light for me.

I used DVD Decrypter to rip just the 4:3 version of the movie to hard disk.

Didn't get me very far. That provided pretty much the same result as what I was getting. I did however figure it out. Needed daemon tools :thumb:
