Not sure if anyone here has a set that they can recommend, or have tested, but i'm looking to get a nice gaming headset that offers 5.1...

i have found a few that i have my eye on -

Optical set (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2217094&CatId=42)

this set offers 8 individual speakers, 4 on each ear, and has an optical connection!!! also has a 5.1 external loopback
i'm not really up on the whole optical connection, being i've never used it, but now my p4p board has the port, why not use it right? :wpleased:

5.1 plug set (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1497766&CatId=2382)

this set offers the 8 individual speakers as well, but has the individual front/rear/center plugs to connect...
also has a detachable mic for when it get all in the way :D comes with a splitter to run back to you speaker setup :yup:

eBay waaaay too much set (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Audio-Technica-ATH-D1000-Optical-Digital-Headphones_W0QQitemZ250007160368QQihZ015QQcategoryZ40137QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

i found this set on eBay, and the thing that grabs me is the DIRECT optical connection to the headset...
didn't say anything about surround sound, but who can afford a $500 set of headphones anyway? :bonk:

any opinions/feedback is appreciated!

Hello BeeHay.
I went through this myself, and tested quite a few headsets (here: http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18449&highlight=headset ).

I found the BEST sounding headset was the Turtle Beach Earforce hpa surround sound headset.

These had THE best sound of any I have tried (or tried since then).
If they dont hurt your ears after 15 minutes (like they did mine), I would definitely recommend them.

I see Razerzone finaly has their 5.1 headphones out. I read a few reviews and they seem pretty nice. @ $130 they seem like a beter deal than others I've seen reviews of.
Check them out at razerzone.com.

Bee, I tried the Zalman 5.1 headset a couple years back. I do not recommend them. Weak low end response, uncomfortable on your ears & head, and most importantly the actual surround sensation was really pretty weak.

I've tested some gaming headset some months ago.
I've checked up the Zalman 5.1, the Platronics DP500, the Logitech Gaming Headset Pro, and finally the Sennheiser PC-165.
From these I would pick up the Platronics as they're pretty good, but if money is not a problem, then the Sennheiser PC-165 all the way.

I've been using the Sennheiser when gaming online with R6:RS ever since.
Combined with my X-Fi FPS they keep me goin' on all the time :D
