DaveT, please see my response in THIS THREAD (http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22409).

And keep in mund if you don't like a part of it, or a part of it doesn't work very well, chances are you're stuck with it or the part will be twice as expensive...choose wisely! ;):D

If i was gonna get one, for sure would be a dell, but the ones i like are not offered through their website anymore...

i would go with an inspiron 9300, you can get a GeForce 6800 256 megger video card up in there! and i believe it's a PCI-e bus!

or my other choice would be a latitude d810, another laptop where the video card is removable and you can get x600 256 meg in it as well! also PCI-e!!

but there are a few on their site that have 7800's, 7900GS', 7900 512 GTX's , and x1400's...but its all about that $$$$

there are a few other dells i could recommend, i just prefer the removable/upgradeable video cards. have fun sifting through the masses of laptops, and be sure to spend all you can when getting one...

most laptops will flex... 'specially if you use one hand to pick it up from the corner of teh machine...:smash: what dell units have you played on?

alot of the newer d series are pretty sturdy, and those 9300 look hot to me!

but if your biased towards toshiba, geta toshiba...i personally have a toshiba A75-S229...the screen is pretty and it has the 478 northy i <3...

lmao, so if i ever get in the mood to swap chips, i can crack open my lappy and slap it in the desktop...

what would be the main purpose of the machine?
games?

getting a laptop is kind-of a tough decision, like Mikki says, choose wisely!

actualy, all kidding aside, you might want to look into it........

My son was issued one of the small macbooks from his highschool and it seems pretty nice.......guess it depends what you want to use it for....:)

Take a look at dell laptops....this cupon code will get you 20% off the retail price on select laptops:
JPR03ZH7M96M1G

for 17" type one of the following keywords in the search box (dell home)
e1705s1, e1705s2, e1705s3, e1705s4

for 15.4":
e1505s1, e1505s2, e1505s3, e1505s4
the video options on the 15.4" are messed up (the 7300 is more expensive than the x1400 even though it performs at the x1300 level)

for about $1060 you can get a 15.4" w/Core Duo T2400 (1.83ghz), 1 gb ram, x1400, xp pro and USXGA screen (much better resolution and brightness than the normal screen)

Also, play around with the different systems...the same options may be cheaper on xxxxs3 than an xxxxs4 and vice versa
