i needed a new router so i ordered this one (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=252069). what do ya all think ? good choice ? my old linksys isnt cutting it no more. should be nice to have a gigabit network . now if my isp would just provide better speeds id be happy ! 7 mbps down isnt to bad but 389 k at best up could be better . when i beta tested for them over 10 yrs ago we were getting atleast 10 mbps down and 512k up

Hello Subsider.

When you get this (if you are), could you post results of this router vs the linksys?

I have been eyeballing that router for a few months now, and would like to see how it compares to the linky.

Thanx.

Currently my PC is still hardwired into the Router provided to me by our ISP (Aliant Speedstream 6520) which is 100MBPS and the wireless is hooked through a Linksys WRT54G for 54MBPS.

Is there such as thing as a better router which will yeild better performance? Even on a low 5Mb connection..

Will do ! I should have it monday ... although my Linksys has done a decent job for me for the last 5 yrs it has periodically failed to renew my ip's for the last yr . leaving me to have to power cycle it to get er goin again . I also had the same problem with it when i first got it till i changed the firmware.

I doubt it will improve your internet much if at all if your already getting close to your rated speeds but if your lan is capable of gigabit speeds you should see a real boost in network preformance ! the dlink 4300 is the same router but in a wireless version

Not to partially hijack this thread, but what's the difference between a "dial in" PPPOE and just having the net on all the time?

havent had much time for testing/tweaking but this is what ive experienced so far with my new router . streaming music is flawless ! no hicups what so ever . not that my old linksys ever had a problem in this area as it always did a respectable job .. playing UT seems to be the same online but def a improvement on my lan ! (i didnt enable gamefuel) file transfers - i copied 3 iso files (almost 11 gig ) in about 5 min... not to bad i would say !

Doh.
Gamefuel was what I was wondering about.

Also was wondering how it works when you are gaming online, and another computer is, like, surfing the web, downloading, etc...

Is the other comp surfing getting really slow browsing, dl's, etc?

How much of an impact does it have on the online game? 10ping less? 20? 30?

That is the kinda stuff I was wondering about.

TIA for any info you can provide about this.

Dave i still havent had time to really test this router but i did give it a go with gamefuel enabled playing UT 05 and dling some files on the same pc and 2 others at the same time also one of the other pc's was being used to browes the net . i seen no lag what so ever and neither did the other person browsing the net while it apeard that the file dl's were slowed down some posibly the results of gamefuel prioratizing game packets !
