i had a very bad prometeia week :( i seemed to have killed my 8inxp and my 3.06 that could hit 170fsb. but i will rma that cpu and hope to get one just as good. i think i got some conensation on the back of the socket and whent i took of the cooler all i smelled was burnt pcb. so i followed the directions setting up and i still killed it. but i did not use the foam gasket on the back of the socket because the retailer i bought the prommie from told me now they use that heater and not the foam gasket . i just wrote chip-con and asked them if i need the gasket and if they say yes and the retailer lied to me then lets just say i'll be a little angry at them. if anyone here has any extra advice on condensation prevention or links to any tips i will be very grateful :)

the real issue is i need to get my prometeia back up and running and i need a new board to use in it. and caterwood and springdale are looking very tempting. i will be using a 3.06 and 2x256 cosiar xms ddr 400 the older good cas 2 stuff that has served me well. the problem is that it seems tjat alot of the cool boards that are 875/865 are not playing well with the prommie's reset hold till -33 happens. if anyone has any good advice on a new board i am all ears. :)

samcolt, I'm really sorry to hear about that...I hope you get it sorted. I know nothing about WC'ing so I can't offer any advice, just wanted to say sorry....:( ;)

Most of the people I know using techs or phase change say that moisture is the #1 problem. I would take extra precautions for an extreme cooling system. Dielectric grease in the socket and in the actual chip pin holes, and silicone sealant around the socket area. Foam insulation on the back side of the motherboard is a good idea too. Good case air flow will help prevent condensation also.

SNIP from Chip-con installation support page.

“Put the fitting foam gasket in the rear cover, and place seal-string onto the inside perimeter of the rear cover, without it touching the gasket”

Hope that helped, I know the kit comes with all the necessary equipment to help avoid condensation but some extra measures never hurt.

Have a look here if you are planning on using a caterwood or springdale motherboard.

Most ppl with Prommie and IC7 just go into bios and let the prommie go down to -33 then exit and boots into windows... Seems to be working nice... :D

thank's for all your input:)

moonwizard i have been thinking of doing what you are talking about letting system sit in bios till the temp is reached. and i really want a p4p800 and that will be my only option if i choose to go with that board but i wonder if that will limit my overclock in anyway? i hardly ever shut my rig off anyway do to folding so i guess it wont be a hasle.

and as far as the foam gasket i still have not recieved a e-mail back from chip-con stating that they still use the foam gasket with the little 5watt heater i recieved with my prommie, i am very curios to hear what they have to say.

Chip-con has wrote me back and told me that the U.S. models do not use the foam gasket and only the 5 watt heater. The guy said the reason is the prometeia in the U.S. runs cooler do to being 60hz instead of 50 hz across the atlantic. So i guess i just will have to take extra protection measures when i install another board.

i had a vapochill a few months ago and i think its heater was rated at 12 watts at 12volts. it did its job .. i never had a problem with condensation.

if i were you i would play safe by using a heater on both sides of the mobo. it wouldnt hurt to play safe.

The head of the prommie has a heater in built.Sam i would use both the heater and the foam if you can.i just use the foam but i am thinking of getting a heater as well for the back of the board.

The foam did not some with my prommie, and chip-con said that is normal for the units they shipped to the U.S., They just said use the little heater behind the socket. I will be setting up the prommie again on monday and i may cut some foam and put it behind the socket fo extra protection but that little heater they give you gets hot and i am scared it could melt the foam.

Hear with chip-con if they can send you a back foam thingie to you... They should be able to do it... but you never know... :D
