Good Morning! I just got my new BenQ 1650 DVD Burner and sold my MSI CD Burner combo drive for 20$ including installation :wpleased:
Anyway, the problem lies in that while looking into My Computer, I see that the remaining D drive (for my old MSI) is still there and my DVD is moved to E. Even after putting in a CD , it will only load under the E drive and the remaining D drive is empty. Any way I can destroy the drive, perhapes to uninstall D without having reprocutions to E?

Maybe?
Control Panel > Admin Tool > Computer Management > Disk Management > Action > All Tasks > Delete Partition
or go to device manager and remove it?

The problem left but then came back with a vengeance. I put in a blank DVD media disk to burn some programs, and it said no medium was in the drive. So I went to My Computer and was met with this:

Ahhhhh!!!! My green LED on the burner is on too. :beat: :beat: :smash:

Is the new drive faulty? Thats a weird one.

I've tried it with the default drivers (which state they were up to date BCFC) and now am back to BCDC. Maybe the newest BCHC will work but I don't know.
Something seems really off. I can now burn files through Nero, but the option to open them was only on the D drive and the rest were empty. Possibly through my own stupidity, I burned them to a .ISO file and the drive was unable to open. But even my Seatools ISO file could open up..

Nothing in the BIOS was changed??? I would poke around in there and see if it "auto" changed or detected anything.

Did you use Daemon perhaps?
And that is what all those extra drives are?
(That is what happens when you use daemon, and burn to iso, iirc).

Ok I have made some progress. Apparently the guys over at NCIX thought it would be funny if they sent me a drive shipped on Slave rather than the usual Master connection I am used to. I also updated to the latest BCHC drivers.
I have taken off Daemon and A120 to make sure they are not virtual drivers too. However, since I switched the jumper to Master, it has eliminated all but a few. Atleast now it makes a little more sense...

If I understand correctly - technically speaking you should or have only 1 DVD burner in the machine right ? The BenQ 1650.
Can you go in your BIOS set up and look at your drive parameters and tell us HOW many cd or dvd drive does the bios see. Presumably this is an IDE interface drive - what IDE port is it on ? same as the Hard disk - all by itself ? Is the right PIO mode selected ?
Taking a second look at your screen I am lead to believe that the DVD burner showing up with the DVD icon in text are virtual drives (E and F). Although you may hve disabled such proggie from your start up , they might be running in the background through services or RUN - nasty and unbehaved applications sometimes will do that.

I checked the BIOS and it only has the BenQ loaded, it is on a seperate IDE cable and is using the Master connection/jumper. Those two extra drivers have nothing in association with the BenQ:

I'll take a look into virtual drivers again. Do you guys think that if I get rid of E and F (though unistallation in System) that it will have a adverse impact on the system?
I swear this is the worst luck I've ever had with something this simple in design. Plug'n'Play need not apply for me

Both of those drives are Virtual Drives....they are either Daemon or Alcohol or something like that....just remove them in the Device manager.
