I want to run a SATA hard drive on an EIDE port.

I thought I saw a few devices somewhere which plug into a SATA hard drive and converts the SATA signals to IDE and allows it to be plugged into a EIDE motherboard.

Anyone try this? How did it work out? What's the best dongle device to use?

Thanks, but I want to avoid any additional driver software anywhere, blockage of airflow, etc.

Also, the SATA drive is 300. And it's only going to be a temporary thing.

[QUOTE]No problem, No hassle, No driver to install (I'm using XP SP2), Plug&Play

ow profile so it doesn't block air flow to graphics card, etc

dont think it should be too much of a problem and I would gurantee it to be more reliable and better performance than an adapter:thumb:

OK.

Let's change the scenario a bit and say I want to put that SATA drive now into my hard drive enclosure for a temporary period of time. What do I use now?

You avoid the turmoils and headache and go buy an IDE drive which are selling dirt cheap these days - if you are going to BUY something might as well be the drive as oppose to some do hickey converter.

Look around online shops - 0.25¢ to 0.45¢ per gig these days for IDE drives.

What about this one? (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002FGEAS/ref=ase_arizomacinusergr/002-2918416-6060826?s=electronics&v=glance&n=172282&tagActionCode=arizomacinusergr)

$35 dollars though. What BB said about bang for the buck as far as that goes.

Thanks Buds for the replies.

I should have been more specific here. I want to plug a WD 500 gig drive into an EIDE 133 cable. The WD 500 gig drive only is made in a SATA version. Thus some sort of dongle is needed. I want to play with it in a few EIDE environments until I move it along into a SATA environment.
