I am trying to update the firmware on a digital camera so it will cooperate with x64. Currently x64 doesn't recognize it, and the manufacturer has NOT written 64-bit drivers for it. Luckily however, I found a post a PlanetAMD64 where a guy said flashing to latest firmware lets x64 see the device and enables perfect functionality in PTP mode. Hurray.

Enter the problem. Per very strict instructions, the update needs to execute from the CF card installed in the camera. Whenever I go to xfer the firmware file on to the CF card so the camera can flash itself I get an error - Disk is write protected, etc. I have been Googling until very frustrated and can't find an answer. This happens with two different brands of CF cards, Lexar, and PQI.

Does anyone know how to bypass, or disable write-protection on CompactFlash cards?

Thanks, jM.

your trying to load the flash file onto the card while its in the camera by using a cable interface?

Have you tried loading the card into a card reader, copying the file over that way and then put the card back into the camera and run it then?

utilizing a pc or pda i write to my CF cards all the time.

I thought that to be the problem, so I took the card out of the camera and used the card reader built in to my Canon MP700 AIO...same thing - disk is write protected...cannot blah blah blah. I just got a portable universal card reader that plugs in via USB - I'm going to give that a shot next.

Thanks for the reply govy.

Yep, I read that too a couple days ago already.
Hard to find anything on Google about this specific issue - I have tried so many different combinations of key words, etc.
