Well, what does it really do, when you enable this and shut down your pc, does it completely erase any memory that was stored in the ram? We all know that ram holds data for a short period of time and then gets removed once you shut down, but if you do not enable the complete memory dump does it still erase everything on the ram? I am a bit confused on the complete memory dump, when should I use this feature, everytime or for a sertain reason?

no kev it dosnt erase anything at all it writes to a .dmp file that contains detailed info on the error/system failure it can be very useful in nailing down the cause of such problems . on you xp cd if you were to browse it you would find a folder named suport tools . in that folder is the install for the suport tools that use the .dmp files (and others ), but usualy the .dmp file are created for tec's to help you out if you were to call tec suport or used remote ast ect . theres (if i remeber corectly ) a readme or other type of doc. in there that may provide more info .

So bascially the memory dump thing is for trouble shooting, if the pc does not boot properly then this will be in writing on the hard drive telling what is wrong? Does this error reporting report anything else, system crashing or application crashing at all? What is better to select, complete dump or the small memory dump? For what you are saying is that the RAM has nothing to do with the memory dumping, then does the RAM accually dump all the temperary data once the pc is shut down?

thats what its for !

it takes the info from memory and writes it to a dump file. yes when you reboot your memory will clear hence why you need to save you work before rebooting !

it will only do the error report if the error actually happens...it will not be able to do anything unless the error happens after windows is loaded.......
