View Full Version : Post your Bandwidth. . . . .
Just for a little fun, let's see what type of Bandwidth our BleedinEdge members are getting.
At home, (I have a better connetion at home then at work) I have a 30/2 connection. Below's results are from only my Wireless-G connection, no tweaking, no SRX. Yes, that is @19Mb/s
For those who want to compare, here is the linkage to the free site: http://myspeed.visualware.com/index.html

I had a 5.07/2.16 but I will have to rescan since I have several programs running which could affect it.
Wired or Wireless? My top on is wireless. I'm tweaking the RWIN settings now. When I go wired, I get almost the full 30Mb/s I am paying for. Totally sick. . . .

I scaned a couple of times now and I tend to get slightly differnet results each time.
Still about the same though, ~5.0+/~2.1+, round trip ~18-20 ms, max pause ~80-60 ms, Quality of service 95%-99%.
I am on a wired connection, Hawk.

Pretty average for me, I have some Net services enabled on the servers so I might see 30-40 Kpbs more if I disabled them, but I doubt it.
I can get 6 down....I just wish they had a bigger up that wasn't an arm and a leg.

Mine's wired. Hawk, your connection  !!
I would hate to see the bill, though. I'm on enlisted military pay!
Adelphia broadband...peak time right now...may be better later on.

hahahahaha, actually on 44.95 a month. I've been waiting for Verizon FIOS. They are wiring in the town as we speak. What I have is Cablevision OO v/ BOOST.
Basic OO is 15/1
Boost is 30/2
FIOS, basic is 30/5 for 29.95 a month I cannot wait. . . .

ADSL you have if I recall correctly - max you would get DOWN with ADSL2+ is 24 Mb/s but sadly no more then present restriction of ADSL on the UP side ~1 Mb/s max.
VDSL if properly implemented and IF big IF, it is ever offered could provide 16 Mb/s UP and 52Mb/s down - gut felling is it ain't coming our ways anytime soon however.

I’m on DSL, and that’s about all I know. It was difficult to find the info, but according to their website, I see this info. 768 Kbps / 128 Kbps. I see most in this thread on download speeds expressed in mbps. Is my connection rather slow for DSL?

I live on the boarder of a national forest. My phone line has a 19k cap on it. I have been doing without for a LONG time. My work sent a wireless card home with me for my laptop. I'm not close enough for the EVDO tower, but I am close enough for the "dial up" site... no games, but I can communicate. :D

I don't think so.
Common DSL is (I believe) slower than most cable and more advanced DSL connections.
I am frankly surprised at my 2 mbs upload, since that appears to be the best upload among the respondents.

This is mine. It's a dedicated 5MB line. I usually knock 500kb/s on capped sites such as fileshack and some other sites actually start out in the 2000kb/s and slowly etch their way down to 500/550.

Here's the numbers I got after my ISP replaced my older Cable Modem with a DOCSIS 2.5 Modem. They were taken in March 2009. I only have a few months before Time Warner starts rolling out the DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modems... then I'll really be burning up the net! :D
Left Image is from Rochester N.Y. to CNET's Servers that are in California. Right Upper pic is TheBandwidthPlace, and the Right Lower is SpeedTest.Net's site. I usually run all three when I make a change to hardware to get a good feel for different distances for my pings (I'm a big time Gamer). I average a 201ms Ping from Rochester N.Y. to EVE Online's Server Cluster in London as well. I'm not sure about the rest of the Country, but Road Runner Turbo has excellent pings in Western N.Y.! :thumb:
I'd say that it's acceptable speed!

Holy thread revival Batman!
Been suffering lower speeds than all my neighbours for years, and recently dropped to 2Mb/s. So... as soon as FTTC hit the area, I went for it:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/1580674947.png
Ah! Much better! I can get up to 10Mb/s upload, but wasn't willing to pay for it.
So how have other users speeds evolved since this thread was last posted to?
EDIT
Hehe, just got a bit better! I'm about 250m from the fibre cabinet, and I'm just about maxed out:

Well I am no longer on a modem. I switch over to a mobile connection. Although it is meant for laptops and accessing the net anywhere it is the only decently affordable option in the area (for now).
I've got the stick on a pole outside for better reception but will have to fiddle with location before testing bandwidth.
Definitely much better than modem ;)

My bandwidth has improved also.
I went from 3Mb/s down 786Kb/s up, to:
50Mb/s down 10Mb/s up
:D
Had to get the neighbors signed statement that he would allow charter cable to run a line from his house to my house.
Only way I could get cable.

What were you at before - surprising how similar your cable speed is to my fibre speed (I have upload capped to save £5 a month).
What is surprising is you result is faster than 93% of US, whilst mine is faster than 83% of UK. The UK press is always banging on about the shocking state of UK broadband!

Thanks Ian for posting. I suspect it has something to do with how much the modem can send or receive via airwaves.
Not complaining cause this is far faster than the old modem but it could be better.
I have the modem high up on the eaves of the house for the best reception. I could go higher but I would have to move the computer.

I am actually paying for the 24mb dl / 4Mb ul service. but they did some upgrades (and that I have a Docsis 3 modem) that gave me faster service.
I can actually get 50mb dl / 10mb ul speeds, but I am not going to pay $100 a month for it!

Its actually interesting to know what other nations pay for their broadband! Mine is £32 a month including phone calls. That is for 40/2. For 40/10 it would be £37 - not bad really! Next year we are meant to get a new profile which will give 80/20. No word on cost - but it looks like an across the board shift. No cable operator in my area, there is only one really and they're on about a shift to 100mb - but they are expensive for 50Mb
I would be interested in hearing plans from other parts of the world.. ...
