I am currently looking into getting an Athlon 64 3200+.
OK here's the delimma: should I wait for the new chips coming out in a few weeks? I was looking at the Gigabyte 8NNXP mobo to couple with the processor. I checked the Mushkin site and it is compatable with special "222" I was looking at purchasing.
I want my system to be rock solid, as I play a lot of FPS games for hours on end.
There are just to many options to choose from and to many problems with memory compatiblity problems to weed thru. So I thought I would ask people more knowledgable than I on this. What are your ideas on this?

Hi LostInSpace278:wave: I just wanted to :welcome: you to the forums and tell you that we are happy to have you here and look forward to your participation at BE

Now as to your new system issue, I'm an Inteliholic the last AMD processor I owned was a 1 GHz TBird which I burned up in smoke and flames  but we have a number of members that will be an excellent resource in your quest for a great AMD gaming rig  Good Luck and happy posting :thumb:

Thankyou Paragon. Its ok by me if your an Inteliholic. Everyone has their preference. I do not do a lot of # crunching nor video editing, Just play a lot of games. So for me AMD is the way to go. I wasn't sure if I should have posted my question here or in motherboard forum, but it actually has to do with both. I guess my question of, will the special "222" be compatable with the new nForce3 250 chips, is asking ppl to look into the future.

My assumption was if they are stable and no compatability problems on the Mobo now, then the new chips, if built on the same architecture, shouldn't pose a problem.

But you never can tell!!!! It's just to hard for struggling tech n00b  to make these kind of decisions. This is why I rely on others for their input and researching resources. I haven't a clue how they find some of the articles and docs, but I am glad they do!!! :D

:welcome: Lostinspace278.

I also used to play on the dark side w/ AMD and have since totally switched over. There is some very exciting stuff comming out in the next few months. If I was you, and you want to get the lateststuff, wait a month or two and see what new hits the market. Then you can either pay $$$$ for the latest, or save some cash on the top of the line stuff that will come down in price when all the new stuff comes out. . . .

:thumb: Good Luck. . . .

Hello Lostinspace278 & Welcome to BE,
was an Intel fan too, but switched to AMD a couple of months ago; haven't regret it, :)
There are some issues with nf3 mobos and 1GB memory, if I were you I'd be waiting for the new chipsets to come out.
If you can't wait and want to bulid up a system now, the gigabyte is a good choise but keep in mind the 2x1512MB issue.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I have just finished reading a review of the nf3 250GB, so I'll be waiting a couple of weeks, for the retail boards to be for sale. The new chipset looks promising. Very little difference in nf3, VIA, or Intel chips now. At least by looking at the benchies, they are all running neck and neck.

My current mobo is an epox running VIA chips nad I can't the 4 in 1 drivers. Everytime I DL the newest version, I have to re-install my original audio driver, just to get any sound at all. :beat: :smash:

I am truly hoping that Gigabyte releases a board with the fine features and stability that the current 8NNXP has. I had first started looking at Asus boards for my new A64 3200+, but after further study. Especially going to AMDforums, I backed away fromn those real quick.

I eventually narrowed it down to the GB mobo, only to find out the nf3 150 was an interim chip and I would be better off waiting. This is the hard part, I know what I want to build, just have to wait for someone else to build the hardware first.

Now I'll have to try and find a comparison chart between OCZ memory and Mushkin to make my final decision on that. Any ideas where I might find 1, b4 I spend hours searching?
