Hey all, just wondering if anyone has any info on my MSI K7N2-L and ocz premier series 3200 ddr400 memory. I am up and running this rig and its 3 days old. It seems stable until I run an app or game and then I get a instant reboot. I have a 2800 barton running stock at 166 fsb and 1 stick of premier 3200 ocz all from newegg and was gonna oc but this setup is not even stable at stock speeds. I have a sparkle 350 watt psu which is a lil weak but got a antec tru430 on order from newegg as well to handle that. The temps on my proc are also a concern I used as3 when I got it seated in the mobo but I got some as5 otw to help with proc temps. Right now they are 48c idle and about 55c under gaming load which is high, a volcano 7+ and decent case airflow is helping but not alot. I am thinking the memory is the culprit and doesnt work well with this setup. Any info would be appreciated. My os is xp pro sp1

Welcome to BE nightshade :welcome:
Sorry to hear about your stability problem. One quick question to clarify things, you mention that you get an instant reboot when running an app or game but also list a cpu temp of 55c under gaming load - so some games do run? Or does everything lock up just at different times?

nightshade,
Have you tried to run memtest86? This will tell you if your ram has issues most of the time.
Your temps do seem high for a system that is not overclocked I would double check the the heatsink is seated right and making good contact.

Good palce to start, Memtest Link (http://www.memtest86.com/) . If you get any errors, come back and I'm sure someone will have some input for you.
Welcome to BE. :)

Okies I ran memtest with 0 errors for about 2 hours last night. I installed call of duty and got 0 lockups and no reboots but.... I got kicked to desktop and my colors were all messed up. Could it be my card? I have a retail sapphire ati radeon 9800 pro using the newest sapphire drivers from there website. I am gonna swap the card out with my old stable gef4 tit4600 and give it a try and will post results. I made a mistake on video cards I think might rma the card and get a Ati retail box

I triple checked my seating on the processor and its a very good seating but I think pc alert4 might be fibbing cause when I do a reboot my bios shows temp to be about 5c lower at boot idle which right now is 44-45c idle

This is for sodface's reply>I cannot run any games at all for over 5 mins at a time. I ran dark age of camelot for 2 mins and got kicked to desktop. I also got 5 reboots during my app for keygens I was creating and call of duty ran for about 5 mins also before getting kicked to desktop. After I installed sp1 last night I had no reboots. These problems dont point to a certain area heck it might even be the mobo givin me probs. Gettin the gef4 in as I write this. Will post another reply after I test stability

Another interesting tidbit, while I was logging into this forum my display went monochrome lol> totally black and white for about 10 secs. :fire: I am gettin frustrated cause it could be this card I just shoveled out 200+ bucks for. Anyone reading running a sapphire ati 9800 pro care to give me there driver version? It seems updated catalyst drivers from ati website are no good for my sapphire card they seem to cause even more crashes than the sapphire ones

It'll be interesting to see how the ti4600 works, let us know. Alternatively maybe you could disable some settings on the sapphire in the dxdiag util - just for troubleshooting.

Just installed the gef4 and updated to newest drivers, ran call of duty and it ran about 20 secs before I totally had a system reboot. I got a error message saying the system recovered from a serious error :( That rules out my psu failing cause I used my sparkle on my 2400 tbred for about 2 months with this card installed. It also shows that my radeon seems to be ok except for the crash to desktop. I also set agp down to x4 on the gef4 also. I am gonna check my irq's very close and hopefully find out something. This rules it down to OCZ memory or my mobo is faulty

I have the same kind of problem everytime, I am getting a memory dump but its not a blue screen as showing faulty memory. This is crash number 24 lol

My audigy2 and vga adapter be it radeon 9800 pro or my gef4 are sharing the same Irq which is 19 lol. Thats prolly where my problem lyes, gonna change them out and will post back later.

I am frustrated now, I just changed the irq's 9800 pro is back on 19 and audigy is on 16. I ran call of duty again and got a complete system reboot and got this error message: BCCode:d1 BCP1:1FA51438 BCP2:00000002 BCP3:00000000 BCP4:F17CAA7B at startup once again It said I had recovered from a serious error. I have troubleshot all steps here and I am at a stalemate. Maybe I should rma my memory and board? I dont think getting a new psu is gonna make these probs disappear from this os and bios lol. Gonna try to disable some things in dxdiag util and go from there.

Have you checked your event viewer logs at all?

Yea and all of them are the same as the one above. I am getting blue screens which would indicate memory probs. I havnt given up on the board yet but the memory already has a rma accepted and is going back. Gonna get some kingston hyperx dual channel thats fully accepted for a K7N2 delta L and is on the good list. OCZ has some nice memory but none has been tested and on the good list. Thanks all for the advice

Nightshade,
You may or may not know that this sight is now the official OCZ Support Forum, have you thought about visiting that forum and giving those knowledgeable guys there a chance to help solve the issues you are having before you RMA...Just a thought

You never said if you were running the RAM at 166 or 200 fsb? What timings were you using with the RAM? I just bought a gig of OCZ PC3200 R3 and it will not even boot in to Windows at 200MHz at CAS2. If I set the timings to 2.5 3 3 11, it runs stable at 204MHz, running 1:1 with my 2500 Mobile processor. I must say that I'm not very impressed with this memory for the price that I paid for it. I could have got a gig of Samsung PC3200 that will run at those timing at 200fsb for about $65.00 Canadian less! :beat:

In a hurry cant read all the posts , Im running 1GIG of OCZ premier 3200 ram , the one with the copper heat spreaders , and it works fine , Im on K7N2-L latest Bios , with my FSB @ 200 and my cpu to ram Ratio 1:1 , I have had no reboots and I replaced my Kingston Hyper X 2700(333Mhz) which I had 768megs of , and my system is much faster I have been able to boot @ 215FSB with no problems but Ive just been on Holiday and havent had chance to see whats the most I can get out of it .. For three days before I lest for my hols I was playing Doom3 and I still have had no problems and my loading times are faster since swapping my Hyper X ... I have posted that this works on the MSI forums !! , Good luck
