I haven't seen this talked about much here and was wondering how many have used it and what you have done with it.
For those that may not be familiar with Bart PE, It's a tool used to build a facsimile of Windows PE (Preinstallation Environment) - A 32 bit OS that can load entirely from CD (or hard disk) and can be customized to allow you to run a variety of apps. You can even boot systems from CD that have no hard drive at all.
The Bart PE program itself prompts you for some setup information and then asks for your OS install disk which it copies the OS files from- it then creates a bootable iso image for you to burn.
I created a plugin for it that allows me to access my sata drive (NTFS volumes are supported anyway which is way cool).
I've only had cause to use it a couple of times other than just for playing, I had a few rogue files that I couldn't delete from windows, so I booted to the Bart PE disk and deleted them that way.
I guess many people use it for system maintenance and repair, virus scanning, etc.
Anyway, a quote from the site:
What is BartPE and PE Builder?
Bart's PE Builder helps you build a "BartPE" (Bart Preinstalled Environment) bootable Windows CD-Rom or DVD from the original Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 installation/setup CD, very suitable for PC maintenance tasks.
It will give you a complete Win32 environment with network support, a graphical user interface (800x600) and FAT/NTFS/CDFS filesystem support. Very handy for burn-in testing systems with no OS, rescuing files to a network share, virus scan and so on.
This will replace any Dos bootdisk in no time!
The site is Here (http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/) and is well worth looking into if you haven't already.
Apart from Bart PE there are many other cool tools and info in other parts of the site. I don't have a floppy in my main rig so I used Bart's clean boot CD and usb memory stick to flash my mobo bios.
