im ditching the xpc coz im going back to OC..i just cant help this sickness of ours..

1.) im in the market right now-looking for the best ram... im in a dilemma between OCZ 4400 and XMS 4400..which one should i get?

2.) can i easily get 4 GHz out of a 3.4c?

3.) is P4C800-E still the mobo of choice?

im basically looking for a cpu/mobo/DDR combo..

should i go A64 this time? any ideas..thx..

Being a user of OCZ PC4200EL I can highly recommend the OCZ!

There is no easy way. Water cooled....maybe. No guarantees.

3.) is P4C800-E still the mobo of choice?

Absolutely. I need a new board myself and was looking at the IC7 Max3 but the more I read the more I decided to get a new P4C800-E deluxe instead.

Jojo,

I have a 3.4C and on air, I can get to 3.8Ghz, not 4Ghz. :| Every CPU is different.

Also, why buy 4400's? Those work best in machines that can make it to 300FSB and better. If you are in the market for the 3.4C, I'd say go for the 3700's or 4000's that handle tight timings.

Man, with a multi of 17, bh-6/5 based memory seems to be the best choise.
Unless u get an E.S. of course, :).

You sure you still want to sell me that ram Jo?

Funny, cuz I was going to put these sticks in my SB75G2 v2.

If I were you, I'd look into an A64, but would definately wait until the NForce3-250 chipsets are out with guranteed agp/pci locks so you can raise the FSB on these suckers.

Yes, we are all sick. :beat:

hawk:  i can hit that 3.8 with a good 3.0c...hmm im thinking hard right now if it's really worth spending the $200 difference between the 3.0c and 3.4c.. i just wanna see the big 4GHz in my screen you know..

rootX and thor: i want the 4400 for a change..ive been using 5:4 and 3:2 forever...with the 4400 i can do 1:1 easily with the high multiplier cpu's and nice 5:4 ratio with the low mutiplier ones..i just dont know how much i'll be losing for going 1:1 with loose timings though..

theres a FX51 in newegg refurbs right now...but i think ill be needing ECC DDRs for it..hmmm..but with the fx51,my OC will be limited, right? so i can just get a nice, tight 2-2-2-5 pc3200, right?

*refurb fx51=$500
*new A64 3400=$420

i know i can also opt to go the mach I way or WC but im done with WC and phase change..i cant stand the mess of sealstrings, dielectric grease, bleeding the WC setup, leaks etc...

im getting a headache now... :beat:

4Gs with a 3.4, means only 235 fsb.... it's a waste to use 4400 ram for 1:1 action... even if you manage to run them @ 2-3-3-6, u'll pay a fortune just to underclock ur ram...
235 1:1 with 2-2-2-5, or 2-3-2-5 is much better, at least this is what I'd do if i was setting up such a rig.
With a 3.0C, the whole scenario changes though...
With what cooling u goin for 4GHz?

i have a zalman cnps7000A... if it's not enough then i might have to get a sp-94/97..

3.4C with a nice pair of 2x 512MB OCZ PC3700 Gold rev2 @ 233mhz 2.5-3-3-7 which can oc to 250mhz 3-3-3-8 at 2.85v on P4C800-E doable :)

for 233mhz 2-2-2-6 you'd need to volt mod your p4c800-e for 3.1-3.3v vdimm

Hmmm, pc4400 ram would only benefit if you used a cpu that can attain 290 plus fsb at 1 to 1 ratios imho. I've used pc4000 at 280 fsb max at 2.85 vdimm with 3-4-4-8 timings, and the os was very snappy. But, a gig of those are a bit pricey for me.

i have my eyes on the OCZ 4200EL right now..it looks promising as kinda "universal DDR"...im still undecided as to which processor to get...i think im gonna stay INTEL but still thinking if i should get a 1.) 3.4c + a gig of OCZ 3700-4200 + keep my XPC or 2.) SL6WU 3.0c + OCZ 3700-4200 + P4C800-E + SP-94...man, it's a tough decision to make.

**there's only one goal: hit 4 GHZ stably..

Jojo,

Only you can make that decision. They are both great chips to go with. I would only say that the 3.0C should OC higher then the 3.4C. . .

my former modded p4c800-E in action (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=283719)

looks like im picking up a p4c800-e and a 3.0c

Finally ordered (overnight shipping)the following:

1.) P4C800-E --- ( im going to do the droop and vdimm mod )

2.) P4 3.4c --- ( had a hard time choosing between this one and the 3.0c)

3.)OCZ PC4200EL 512mb X2 --- ( if i happen to switch to a high fsb/low
multiplier processor, at least i dont have to switch memory)

i'll be using zalman cnps7000 at full speed...will report OC result on wednesday..:)

2 x 74 gig raptors would be nice additions but it's out of my budget right now..i can only afford one for now..now here's my question: will there be a big difference between a raid-0 36gb raptors vs. a single 74gb raptor? should i get a pair of 36gb or just a single 74 gb? any ideas??

Go with the single 74Gigger for now and add another later. One to One they are much faster than their smaller brother and 2 74's in RAID0 approach SCSI speeds.

Yes, 2 RAID 0 36GB drives will be faster then a sinlgle 72GB drive.

But, you will not see the difference in games and applications, only in bench's.
