FX-60 CCB2E 0536RPMW + DFI NF4 UT SLI-DR benchmark and mini review adventures.

Yup, was crazy enough to get myself one of these going to cover some of the cost with selling off my Opteron 170 CCBWE 0544XPMW http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=1803 and eventually my Opteron 146 CAYBE 0540FPBW :)

Thanks to k00lance at xtremesystems.org, the FX-60 arrived from USA brand new unopened retail box. The cpu was perfect condition, but same can't be said for the inside green protection foam which must of had a bad day :)

Still going to cool cpu with Corsair Hydrocool 200EX Water
- Pics are off Hydrocool 200 model but same as 200EX except EX model has fan filter on exhaust fan by default and slightly revised waterblock lapping on EX model :)
- Tubing is 6mm inner diameter based or 1/4" OD - puny i know :)

- Swapped out my Opteron 170 and plucked in FX-60 and used AS5 TIM with Hydrocool 200EX block.
- Bios idle temps were 3-5C higher with FX-60 @2600mhz 1.312v vs Opteron 170 @2600mhz 1.312v = 36-38C vs 31-33C
- Windows idle temps were 3-4C higher with FX-60 @2600mhz 1.312v vs Opteron 170 @2600mhz 1.312v = 33-36C vs 29-33C

Memtest86+
- very preliminary tests just to get an idea of what cpu range is.

First test is at 13x233HTT = 3029mhz at 1.312v stock vcore with 2GB OCZ PC4000EB @233mhz 3-3-2-5 at 2.64v with 2753MB/s memtest reported bandwidth and ran with no probs until it came to test #7 had errors. So upping vcore to see what the cpu likes :)


Overclocking:
Decided 3029mhz will be my first overclock to aim for. It booted into windows at 1.312v stock vcore but the apps were flaky when loading. So jumped straight to 1.408v for benching :cool:

Very happy with this cpu so far, even better than my FX-57 0516WPMW oc'ing wise. Not sure about memory controller wise yet as it's still too early to tell :)

Couple of questions.

What's with this very ODD tref value ?? is this the norm for the Infineon - talk about odd value....?????

What happen to your double pump cooling system? Possible temp reading are due to Hydrocool???? - which btw how do you rate that hydrocool say for example strictly to use for cooling down 2 x1900 not the cpu.

thanks guys running dual 32m right now at 3105mhz at 1.504v :)

BB_One, my OCZ PC4000EB is rock stable with TREF = 1552 and seems other infineon ce-6 ram sometimes likes this value as well

double pump water cooling was a pain because my G4 Storm waterblocks had hard time getting right mounting pressure and contact with each cpu i tried - averaged 8-12x remounts to get it right and it clocked less than with MCW6002!

then i went back to Hydrocool 200EX as it literally takes 2 minutes to swap cpus and clean and reapply TIM and you get perfect contact and mount everytime the first time!

Hydrocool 200EX is rated for 200W heat output... most of my cpus max out around worked out 237W of heat for me

I'll be redoing my double pump, 3x 120mm fan rad loops later on trying other waterblocks or using G4 Storm for LGA775 rig which the G4 Storm likes and does very well with.

2x X1900XT probably not too well on Hydrocool 200EX, unless you use 2x Hydrocool 200EX one for each card heh. But then you might want to use the new Corsair Nautilus 500 instead

Hydrocool I suspected the answer - looking at a Koolance Exos ( initial release ) rated 500 Watts BUT only thing that annoys me a little is the 6mm inner dimensions - will see if the price is right might just give it a go. GPU cooler for x850 from Koolance is frankly neato design, pricey but maybe worth a try until I get new GPUs - not seen their X18/19 models yet - Cebit 2006 maybe.

Just trying to nail dual 32M at 3107mhz - seems cpu1 core keeps hanging after 18th iteration while cpu0 completes it fine heh

To confirm it wasn't a memory issue, i lowered the cpu multiplier to 11x and set ram @275mhz 3-3-2-5 at 2.64v

edit: yeah baby 3108mhz dual 32M completed, and all it needed was a tad more vdimm for some reason 2.64v has always been enough for 282mhz 3-3-2-5 with this ram, but for FX-60 @3108mhz dual 32M it needed 2.69v

Help me out here - what component(s) do you expect the burn in session to affect that would allow them to yield better performance after a heavy strain session?

Did see somewhat of a yield with my VX memory in the past, but I would think your memory sticks have been burnt to the max in previous sessions of benchmarking/testing with other processors - hence my question.

with dual cpuburn k7, basicallly the cpu should either clocker higher, or clock same with less vcore after successful burn in sessions ( a few are needed)

Changed from 2GB OCZ PC4000EB 3-3-2-5 ram to 1GB OCZ PC3200 Gold UTT BH-5 :D

Trying this sub 24min with 3ghz with dual core cpu single 32M and guess due to dual core cpus less bandwidth clock for clock it's alot harder to hit sub 24min at 3ghz heh

Woah did 250mhz 2-2-2-5 7-14-2-2-1-1 for 12x250 = 3ghz and 32m = 24min 24s which is same as all the other tweaks 2-2-2-0-7-12-2-2-1-2 ttrd0 etc, just the single change for Trtw from 2 to 1 was all that was needed!

Up it to 12x 255mhz 2-2-2-0 7-12-2-2-1-1- ttrd 0 and dc 0 and MAL/Preamble 6ns 4ns and broke my fastest dual 32M record at 24min 19s!

It is too hot as i can see by your temps.
I could expect 3.4GHz easily but....

Ouch BB mods that ain't good for water.. remount and check the waterblock to cpu IHS contact

Time to put the cpu to more use, decided to swap in 2x 256MB BFG 7800GTX stock hsf for some SLI action. And right off the bat I broke my personal best for 3dmark05 which was previously 14,740 with Opteron 170 @2880mhz with SLI @500(550)/1386!
