As title says....My Lt163 (16x48x) Dvd-rom has been starting to have problems reading cds and dvds at initial spin up....It went from every once in awhile to almost always and hardlocking the system.......

I have not ruled out cable yet or channel, but before I play "musical chairs" I would like to see if someone knows a SAFE and EASY way to clean the laser or check the drive....

It is still within its 3 year warranty period so I cam still RMA it so no advice on cracking the drive open, please...

I agree. Canned air could cause more problems than it solves by blowing debris over other areas within the drive.

i just use a typical cdrom cleaner altho that may not be right. My DVD drive is Pioneer and I have had to clean my lens once or twice since I bought it. I called Pioneer and they said that a standard CD-ROM lens cleaner should do the trick and wouldn't void the warranty. It would probably be safe to assume that Lite-On would give you similar advice.

ive been using the same cd -rom drive cleaner for the last 5 years- it's a cdrom with fine bristles on it..it plays a classical music as it cleans..and it really does the job well.. i do clean my drives at least 2x a year..

i have the same problem with my dvd-rom drive
it's ltd-163d...
maybe i should go get those stupid cleaners...

hey duvie...when you put the cd/dvd in the drive...it would just spin a lil...and then spin a lil over and over until it locks the system right?

I wonder if it's the firmware that's doing that

I had the same issue with my Yamaha the other day....I used canned air to blow it out...works great again. Just don't shake the can....when it get pretty cold that you can't really hold it then stop spraying 'til it warms up again.

The CD's with the little brushes on them work great. I was having problems with my Dell lappy DVD and Dell suggested a CD laser lens cleaning disc. Since then, I have been using it whenever I have optical drive read problems with no bad.
