Hello.
I have been trying to replace my fairly uncomfortable logitech headset with a comfortable pair, that sounds good.
So far I have tried these out:

Turtle Beach Earforce hpa surround sound headset.
These are the most amazingly clear sounding headset I have tried, but they are also the most uncomfortable to wear. My ears started hurting after 15 minutes.

Medusa 5.1 Headset SL-8790 surround sound headset
These are the most comfortable headsets I have tried to date, but the sound quality was lacking, and one the right rear speaker was not working properly. I have heard there are build quality issues with the medusa's also.

Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset (stereo)
This is the headset that I am replacing. It is fairly comfortable for about an hour or so, but I find myself repositioning them every 20-30 minutes or so. Also, the sound quality is not that great either. In quake 3, it drops some of the sounds sometimes.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these headsets that I am considering (all others I have dropped from the list due to poor reviews):

Icemat Siberia headset
Koss SB45
Steelsound 5H (kind of expensive for only stereo headset, but so are the Icemat's)

Thanx for any info.

I have had a Plantronics USB Headset for over a year now and think they're great. Link (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16826106013)
They're stereo, not 5.1 though.
Comfortable with good sound quality.

Have you looked at the Sennheisers? I love mine.

Hey moop.
Yes, and I discarded the senheiser's as being too uncomfortable. Thanx tho.

I've been using a set of cheepo Altec Lansing with boom mic, they are great for VOIP but not so good for games.....

I also had some Sony Digital Hedsets a while back that were nice, cant remember the model tho....

For VOIP I was using REALLY cheap headphones that came with a $2 transistor radio. Then the other day I discovered I didn't need headphones for VOIP - there was no feedback or anything. Very cool.

In any case I did opt for a set of Altec ahs302i headphones with a boon mic so I could play some games at night without waking everyone in the house (see how addicted I am to NFSMW?).

I wanted to get the Zalman surround headphones but sure how to hook them up without having to disconnect the speakers.

Doh rotorhead.
:( hehehe

Snafu.
Ye, I was just looking at the Zalman reviews today. Everyone says they sound really good in the mid and high ranges, but the low/sub end is very weak. They also said that they tend to pinch the temples also, which is a big no to me.
I may go to a local store and check them out anyway though....This would make me have to buy a seperate mic tho, something I didnt want to do.
If I did that, I may as well get some serious BOSE headphones and get the mic seperate. But the 5.1 is too good to pass up, after hearing the turtle beach headset......

My headphones consist of my 2 children bickering on either side of me. Great stereo sound :rotflmao:
I do have a pair lying around some where, but the kids love to play with my pc stuff, geez even my oldest (4 years) is starting to take my spare pc parts and try to build his own. :rotflmao:

OK.
I went for the Medusa non-5.1 headset, as a comfortable headset is what my main goal was.
Since I had experienced problems with the 5.1 rear right speaker, I am hoping that the stereo only headset will not have any problems.
It is a shame that Turtle Beach does not sell additional ear cups (oversized), or center foam to make their headset more comfortable. These truly were the best (and I mean amazing amazing sound) sounding headsets I have ever heard, even better than some speaker sets I have owned.
Oh well.
Maybe I will write my findings on the medusa set once they get here.

I use a set of studio series dynamic performance headphones. Maxell Digital HP-2000, very comfortable and great sound, no 5.1 though, and no mic.

Hey Doc.
Ye, I didnt want to go USB either (or I spent $100 on that sb audigy 2 for nothing).
Maybe should have stated that in the qualifications. :hide:

It's no USB only.
You can use either your sound card or the usb adapter with the CMedia Chip.
