as anyone ever tweaked cable modems? I've been looking into this for about 2 weeks
seems very possible to "uncap" a modem and get higher bandwidth

Now I know your're not supose to do this but it seems like an awsome challenge...
Hard to resist, becoming an obsession... help.. where's that upgrad-aolic thread when you need it... Doh!

Ok, have a look into this
http://www.securityfocus.com/news/7977
http://www.mycrypto.net/underground/cable_modem_hacking.html

I have an tweaked cable modem in my hands :D
I just want to make sure I get it all rigth before any attemp and also there must be does and don't guide somewhere... very hard to get clear answers because of the nature of the tweak... this is for educational purposes only, don't try this at home kids

So this is what I have so far
1. 6mb/s download 1mb/s upload internet account
2. webstar DPX100 cable modem

this is the project
1. could have both modems online on same cable runnig into a server with 3 ethernet cards (2 inputs WANs) one output (LAN) to a router and my network

or at the least run one modem "uncaped" to upgrade up/down bandwidth

So? anybody heard, wants to learn.. know how, does and don'ts..
don't be shy now, nobody's gonna point the finger :deviltail

I'm in canada, seems my ISP has caps onto their servers from what i can find so far, I hope i'm wrong cause I just waisted money on a modem I am not going to be able to use...

You can't uncap the 15k/s on videotron know why? because the modem (motorola or samsung) are untouch by videotron the modem does 10mbit each side very fine.. the capping is done in the videotron routers unless you hack them and even if you do if you change the speed setting its by groups wich meens you will upcap EVRYONE and you can be sure they will know it in 5 minutes... the problem is not your home hardware its there settings

What is your ISP? could you google something up?

you could probably do it with my modem, maybe you should try to drop the guy an e-mail (bottom of your url page) se if he's still around? I saw a couple of guys in a forum talking about your ISP and running "uncaped"

I have a friend (1 hour drive) who has cogeco ISP, I will try it at his place, nothing to do from my place, cool modem tho, serial com conection with programable interface, you can either upload a file or change every variables by yourself, keep in touch
