The Bleedin Edge wants to see your Case Mods!

We want to see it all!

From the simple LED mod to the extravagant built from scratch Bleedin Edge stuff.

The hard work that you have poured your blood, sweet, and tears into just to be the coolest guy on the block.

Just post a couple of choice pictures (not huge) and a brief description of what you’ve done.

Not much more than a nifty paint job....:p Ignore the iPanel, it was temporary until I could mod a front usb panel.

lol! Yeah, I bought that a few years back when big cases were the IN thing....thought I'd give it a facelift a couple months ago. To be honest tho guys, it's sitting behind me unused...it's just to big to make it easy to get in and out of. I'm using a cr@p case for one rig and my Coolermaster ATC201 for the other....haven't modded either yet....:p;)

d@mn, i wish my case was that big! (youll need 2x 120mm blowholes in that thing)

doesnt the side panel open easily? mod it! ;)

It opens as easily as any other case, it's just that the config of my room is such that the only way to get into it is to disconnect everything and pull it out. Whereas a small case on my desk is nice and accessable...:)

ThugsRook
07-07-2003, 01:52 PM
you mean to put your case on the floor it would have to be on the "outside" of your desk on the right side?
blocking itself from accesssability ~ i see.
and i know you dont even have a left side of your desk :na:

mine is under my desk on the right side, so its not blocked at all.

:)

Mikki
07-07-2003, 02:27 PM
Yep, exactly.....and to keep the front close to hand, I have to put it between the 2 sections of my desk, so I literally have to disconnect it and pull it out to get at it. It's really unfortunate but I can't really do it any other way....

ThugsRook
07-07-2003, 02:53 PM
i forget what your desk looks like ~ got a pic?

can you remove the right underside (support?) of the desk and just mount that side to the wall or something? hehe~

Mikki
07-07-2003, 03:16 PM
THis is an older one, but you can see what it's like. The desk is actually 2 pieces, you can see the 2nd piece on the right with the wheels on it. In order for me not to have to reach across the room to get at the front of the case, I had the tower between the 2 pieces. I've looked at it before to see if I could dismantle it a bit to make it more accessable and that's a big fat no...:p

http://www.bleedinedge.com/images/mik/desk.jpg

ThugsRook
07-07-2003, 03:25 PM
were do you put your feet?

you could make a new piece for the pull out kb tray right side~
then mod the removed right side support so it mounts near the right edge of the desk.

that way you could still put the tower under the desk ~ but it will be on the left side of the right side support (and give you more foot room!)

LMAO! :rotflmao: (its a private joke ~ i modded my desk for more footroom)

Mikki
07-07-2003, 03:31 PM
Hehe...I remember...;)

I'm okay for footroom now as I have my sub in a different place. :)

That's a good idea except for one problem...the top of the case is exactly equal in height to the top of the desk....:beat:

ThugsRook
07-07-2003, 03:33 PM
remove the wheels on the case?
put floor pads on the bottom of the desk supports? (to raise it slightly)

does the top right side of the desk roll away along with that side unit?
if it does my idea wouldnt work :(

i was thinking its an overhang and the rollaway it just sitting under it.

Mikki
07-07-2003, 03:44 PM
No, it's a totally seperate unit, top included....

No worries...I'll figure something out...I don't really mind a case on my desk anyway, tho it's a tad noisier up there. Need to swap out the video card fan....;)

cut an intel stock cooler in half, and high polished that surface(like i do all my contact points)

Dr.2K is that your BIOS being displayed on the LCD?

If so, how?

RH

Dr.2K
09-11-2003, 04:45 PM
Yes, it is the bios in the lcd screen. How? by using my s-video out in my video card and connecting to the composite video-in on the lcd module. All you need is an adaptor and ATI usually furnishes those with their high end video cards. I also watch some tv on it with my tv tuner card, all i have to do is just switch cables from the 2 cards.

If I really want one I will have to build myself a unit to fit under this case and put the prommy in there and it will have to be pretty strong at that! Still debating. ;)

Very very nice system you got there...

by any chance could you post up a HOW TO: for your rig set up and builded...

oh yeah...how loud does your case sound like? i bet it's like a blue tornado in there all the time...there were like a million of fans...u should really have some put at the bottom of the case if you haven't already do so...lol...

Mikki

Dr. 2K,

Very nice...I've always liked the blue lights. Where do you have it sitting? Do the lights interfere with your work (or play)? :)

Dr.2K
01-21-2004, 01:10 PM
Thnx guys for the kind words. The system can pretty loud wen I have it at full throttle, i.e., benching and games. But it is also very very quite if I have most of the fans turned down. The 8 port rheobus controls all the fans in the system. But the eheim 1250 pump is not the quitest in the world.

The computer site on top of my computer desk station and the lights dont bother me at all. All the CCFL lights can be turned off. I have 3 switches located in the back that takes care of the lights. I also have a on/off switch for the 6in lcd screen located by the front usb ports.

Its been around 7-8 months since I put this rig together and its about time I clean it out and bleed the system.

Hey all how is everything. On to the meat of my post, me and a friend are going to be building his Comp. we are currently shopping for a case with a large acrylic window in order for us to etch some writing and a pic of pinhead from hellraiser (he is a fanatic!!).

We are currently looking at chieftec cases full tower or server, any suggestions? Currently we are eyeballing the dragon server tower I think and possibly an allied 400w PS.

RotorHead
02-23-2004, 09:12 PM
The chieftech is a good choice, the only thing I don’t like is the handle for the side panel.

They are easy to find and don’t cost that much.

The only other ones I would suggest looking into would be Cooler Master or Lian-Li

Is the something you don't like mechanical, or aesthetic? I like the designs somewhat but then the case is most likely going to be chopped, however if the side panel handle is going to fall off or break this will cost me more money.

Oh and thank you for the heads up Rotor.

Cabinny_san, I have been using Chieftec cases for a few years now from the Aero, Dragon, Matrix and a few others in various incarnations (Tt Xaser, Antec) and have never had a single complaint or issue. A good choice overall. The aluminum Dragon series is especially nice. Or course, this is my opinion, YMMV.

I think it's more aesthetic for me. More of a personal thing.

Having said that, I have seen a lot of killer mods done with the Chieftech cases. Like compudog said, it is a nice case with very few complaints.

Oh, and welcome to the BleedinEdge

Thanks Rotorhead,

My friend went with a clear acrylic case, so I think when I finally get enough money to get all the parts for my first pc build I will go with Chieftec. I do like the designs and they seem sturdy, I want to do a nice mod of the case so the sturdier the better.

Well it all started out Friendly, really quite cordial. My new Case arrived. It was a stock, nothing fancy Enermax CS-181-B. It was a large case.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/1.jpg
I took off the side covers and opened up the fron completely to do a little cyphering.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/4.jpg
Then I puuled off the front of case completely.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/2.jpg
I was sitting there looking at it, when out of nowhere it started flipping me crap. I tried to calm it down but, it wouldn't shut up. So I cut it and I cut it good!! The miserable biatch!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/5.jpg
Let me tell you ,that shut it up!! I decided well I was at it. I might as well redesign cases as we know them. So I went to work rebuilding it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/20.jpg
It began to take shape!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/21.jpg
at this point it was telling me that it loved me. Yeah yeah I here that all the time!! So I primed and painted it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/53.jpg
then I started assembling it, even water cooled it!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/69.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/83.jpg
Then I revealed to the world the Secret of WeldZilla 2 STEALTH By design
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/86.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/99.jpg
Then I repainted it
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/105.jpg
Then it came to full life!!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/135.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/114.jpg
then I modded my desk to match!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/desk_1.jpg
And we lived Happily ever after!!
The End

Thanks, I was motivated by 3 different needs on this. I Needed to have the roms facing me so I did not have to do so much rolling and reaching around. I wanted a nice straight shot when looking into case. I did not want to see a bunch of molex wires,IDE-cables, audio cables, Well I was sick of the the mess left by standard cases

Well, here is what I have managed to put togather till now.
The case is an ex. 486sx server, all alu.
It took long hours of work, cutting and blending, but now it's almost done!!

By the way... those huge wholes will harbour 4 TOP Motor 120x120x38 Low 74CFM fans, while the fifth will be clamped over the Termalright xp-120 dissipator, in suck mode and ducted straight out of the case.

The wooden base serves as cool bay for the PSU and future watercooling systems.

Well done.

Jade
10-08-2004, 02:17 PM
well since everyting is mounted upside down in the case and the the motherboard is designed with the memory parallel with the flow of air... so it just so happens that there will be a fan directly infront of it pulling off heat. i figure the designs come together pretty elegantly... i think it should be enough :

Nice Job Jade!!
seems as if you are really trying... My hand would had been shaking while cutting a Lian Li V1000 case with my Dremel, BUT I am not you and YOU did a great job!!

Coming back to your ram cooling solution, to my advice you can keep the fan as it is, in suck mode but you really should duct that hot air straight out of the case!!!

By the way, you obviously know that your V1000 has been studied to work as a negative pressure environment... Watch out on how you direct all those new fans!!

Great job, and keep it up!!

Jade

You should be very proud of yourself Jade, that's an incredible job for your first project. Many people that are way more experienced are still not doing as neat of a cutting job with a Dremel on an aluminum case

Jade

thanks alot i really apreciate it
i just got a normal reinforced cutoff wheel to make the cuts...at first they took me about an hour for each hole but then i found the beauty of cutting grease? well it only took like two or three passes and the cuts were so strait. plus, the wheel doesnt catch and scratch the surface which happened once...

as for the alignment... it wasnt too bad becuase i drew out one and made sure the cutout was right in the middle...then i just superimposed the other one and cut along the edge.

i finished the edges with finishing abrasive buffs. i actually went through a couple of them but they work very nicely. i did have one slip that polished away the nice matte finish but it was very minor. any ideas of how i can fx that? i tried some sand paper...didnt work. and also some steel wool and steel brush...none of those seemed to work. i think they treated it with chemical or something? anyway thansks again guys : )

Yes, I think that the case's construction process has a 0-oxygen painting stadium + oven, but maybe like this you ca get around problem...

Try painting area with a chrome finish spray paint bottle, that you can get at the shop down the road. Don't spray it too dense, and always keep quite far away from target 30-35cm.

Once color has settled, polish it with a protective car polish. This is how it looks on my alu case frame... :suspect:

Hope this helps...

Jade
10-11-2004, 10:10 PM
interesting idea... the spots are way too small to spray though. plus i am afraid i will make it look worse. i think i can live with the blemishes for now so it should be ok..

on another note... i figrued out what i wanted to do with the reservior... so i had the radiator mounted way up front so i could fir the res in the middle but i decided to use the criticool instead of the angeleyes. there was no room on top but i came up with a better idea.... two criticool reserviors and some minor plumbing. still waiting for the other res to come in the mail and another fillport. i accidently bought two extra so i guess ill put the extra one on the bottom to make it easier to remove the bay cover without having to open the case up...

the nice thing about the fillport is that i can screw a barb into the front and attach soem tubing into a pitcher or something for easy filling bleeding or changing water. i know its not necessarily something that i would do all the time but i figure its a nice convenience and adds alittle thought and detail into the overall design.

i am thinking about getting the ddr booster... do i need some extra cooling for the ram?

i am really thinking hard about the lighting. i dont even have a window and i dont want one becuase i want it to be simple... but people always ask to see inside. i tried to keep it alittle subtle, the pictures make it seem alot brighter inside than it really is becuase of the .5sec shutter speed...

if i decide on going with the lights, i still need some light in the hd area...maybe a couple of white lazer leds...two illuminating the fans on the radiator, one illuminating the nv60 waterblock, and also another going into the cpu waterblock becuase its dark right there...

i also am trying to figure out what to do with those knobs... i dont like them sticking out. any ideas of how i can make them retract? i have been looking for something spring loaded but havent been very successful

any help is appreciated, thanks to everyone for all the support, its very encouraging : )

Cooling the ram helps even without the booster and I woudl say it is definitely needed when you overvolt with the booster.

I know the knobs you are talking about but I have not seen any around these parts. Probably need to look at a store specializing in electronic bits n pieces.

Hey Jade, several stock GM (buick, pontiac, etc) car stereos....come to think of it fords as well...have knobs that you push and they pop out for adjustment and then back in when your done.....maybe you could find some junkyard that would sell the stereos cheap and you could scavenge the knobs? I don't think they are usually in silver though....my 2 cents :D

http://store1.yimg.com/I/xoxide_1826_87456 this is the case I finally got. I could have picked up an actual alienware case off of ebay but the ones I saw were pretty scratched up. Mods that I have planned are to chop the top and use this model'n plastic I have to smooth out a nice spot for my watercooling....I may rip off of the ALX case. Other than that I'll have the usual CC lights and maybe a shot dispencer.

it's a logisys phantom. xoxide has em http://www.xoxide.com/phantom.html Front and back can hold 120mm(the reason I got it) and the side holds a 80mm. My radiators are 120mm and this is one of the few cases I found that I liked that had 120mm front and back. I might add a fan blow'n out on the bottom if I have room.

**edit** it didn't say if it had a tray....once I can look at mine I'll tell ya. If I would have known I was going to be up here longer I would have had it sent here.

Remove everything so that you are left with the one piece of extruded aluminum.

Note the fans blow air through slots (long holes next to each other) and air comes out the other end. Here's the easy part... snap off EVERY OTHER piece of the dividing aluminum between slots. Cap the ends (except for the outer slots).

Select your water fittings so they fit in the outer slots. I used JB Weld to fasten the piece of aluminum on the ends.

Done.

The water will now zig-zag through the aluminum block.

These were the original sketches that I worked from

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y220/Sotacs/FromOriginalSketches.jpg

From there I did the final drawings, converted them from raster to vector and came up with these conceptual images.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y220/Sotacs/ToConceptualRendering.jpg
The final product with windows and lighting installed actually looks like this. The edges of the Plexiglas window were accidentally "frosted" when the laser cut them. The effect works well just the same.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y220/Sotacs/121f0195.jpg
The top has a 50mm chrome fan and is fitted with a blue metal flake translucent window. The lighting is provided by three high-output LED's.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y220/Sotacs/Top.jpg
The right side window is actually clear mirror whose edges are surrounded entirely by El-wire lighting (blue of course).
All windows were precision cut with lasers and fit perfectly together.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y220/Sotacs/Rightside700.jpg
A closeup of the dragon face and magic fire helps to show off the detail achieved by utilizing this method.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y220/Sotacs/DragonCloseupShaded.jpg

Here is the lower (80mm) yin and yang dragon fan.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y220/Sotacs/closeup80mmyinyangdragonfanguard.jpg
And a detailed look at it.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y220/Sotacs/closeup80mmyinyangdragonfanguard-Dragon.jpg

I'm trying to get a business started that will utilize lasers for cutting custom windows of all kinds.

Not really a "case" mod, but it is kinda. I had my ol 300watt pus layin around and it had this nice 120mm blue LED fan in it that i really like. Its nice and pretty and bright and loud! So i took it out, cut some wires, re-wired to a fan connecter and had myself some light for my rig. My rig has never been a well lit one, as you can tell. My RAM is about all that lights it up, but now i have this, until i feel like goin all the way up to microcenter to get an LED kit. Heres some pics: If anyone has any ideas for placement, please let me know, cuz i dont think it looks good where it is, though it seems to be doin a good job of cooling....

Folding is a distributed computing project started by Stanford University. You can read all about it here.

http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/

If you like, you can join our team, we are currently ranked 79th in tha world.

Just have a look through this post if you want to set it up.

That's pretty cool.

But since it is distributed computing is it an always online thing?

Just Learnin'
09-25-2006, 04:36 PM
The work units upload the results when they are finished, it only takes a few moments. When all the work units are finished in the original package you received it will download more and start working on those. Again this takes only a short time. It is not connected to the internet while it processes (folds) the work units (proteins).

Aka Zero
09-25-2006, 04:43 PM
That could work, I just have dial up, so upload-download might be slow, but my 4200 x2 kinda sits at home doin nothin right now, so it might as well be doing something.

I don't know how much it helps but I'll probably be joining up on the BE folding team.
Now to read stuff, on to the folding page.

I'm planning on showcasing my mods in that acrylic case. Its going to have to wait until I have a little more spare time so I can finish it.

I do like my Delta saw .. I've had it for years. I just picked up a new Rigid table saw (for free) .. it was dropped during shipping and was damaged... but being a modder and knowing how to use a fibreglass repair kit, it is now my favourite tool.

Using the 70mm fan from the stock CPU cooler supplied by AMD. The Armor Jr. HD cage has pre-drilled screw holes (BTX conversion). The fan is regulated by the NB fan connector. The fan accelerates the air flow to the HR 05 from the 120mm intake in front of the HD cage temps under gaming and benchmarks stays under 40c. The temps are lower then attaching the fan directly to the HR-05.

Not to custom or extravagent but here's mine. I built it originally about 1 1/2 years ago.

Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard
AMD Athlon 3700+ ( has been running @ 2.7 for about a year, doesnt go above 42C)
XFX 7800GTX
2 gigs OCz platinum

All original equipment except for the 2 gigs added a little more then a year ago and is overclocked, since about the first few days i got it. I also added a arctic cooling heatsink+fan setup to the GTX a few months after i built it. Everything has ran flawlessly.

Didnt want to just set both of my radiator's outside of my TT mid-tower (Identicle to this but without the top 4 fan control nobs (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811133160)

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/Cobra-Kicks-Ass/waterchilled.jpg

I didnt know when i ordered my TT bigwater 745 setup that it wouldnt fit in my mid-tower(I was totally new to water-cooling then) and when i started to put it in I relized it wouldnt fit, so I got a hack saw, drill, and some sheetmetal screws. Cut the support bar that goes across the case off half way so i could still fix my wires to it. drilled new holes for the PSU about 1/2 an inch above the old ones. Then once i got everything in i used the shettmetal screws to fix the radiator to the case. Ive had this setup for over a year(I pretty much never turn my pc off) and first used regular clear fluid XP+. I recently replaced the old clear with new Fluid XP+ EXT in lime green color by draining as much of the old as I could then flushing the rest out with the new stuff till i was confident i got it all out or most of it atleast.

My AMD athlon 3700+ is at 2.7 ghz and the TT water setup doesnt let it go above 42C so I am very pleased. It's also very quiet in my opinion.:yup:

Right now I really need to do something with my wires and something with my EL Wire as it's just thrown in there now.:bonk:

Id also like to add that upgrading from 1 gig of ram to 2 gigs of OCz platinum was one of the best upgrades ive ever done, OCz is the only ram ill buy now for high performance builds, stuff is awesome:cool: :thumb:
