When you plug the device in if it is not 2.0 supported you will see the following message. “This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port.” So, if you know the USB port on the computer you are using is USB 2.0 compliant and you see the error then the device or equipment you are plugging in is not 2.0 compliant.

How to tell in XP:

1) If you have no 'yellow' undetected devices in device manager, then you're OK...read on:
a) If your USB description says specifically '2.0' well then you have it!!
b) If your USB description says nothing about '2.0' then you don't have it.

About #1...try checking your motherboard CD or vendors website for drivers and *.PDF’s about USB2.0 if your PC/motherboard supports it. And or bios upgrades some USB were build 2.0 but were not BIOS ready at time or MOBO release and all you need to do is update BIOS to enable it.

Adding SP1 doesn't 'give' you 2.0 supports, it simply enables it however (but you can get 2.0 to work in non-SP1 if you needed to). Some motherboards (Intel for example) allow you to disable specifically USB 2.0 in the bios, so check there too.

Timber,

You might want to DL Belarc Advisor, which is a nice util to tell you what you have on your machine. It will tell you what software and hadware you have, not to mention it will tell you if you are SP'd or not and what other updates you might need. This was an anter thought but it might tell you more about your hardware than what you really needed to know but it is helpful.

What does it tell you when you plug a device in? and what type of device are you plugging in? Is this related to your other post?

No it is not, I just want to have USB 2.0 because than my transfering of my songs to my Ipod will be MUCH quicker lol. I have a USB 2.0 adapter, but when I plug it in nothing happens?
