Well after I upgraded my PC with some new hardware i sold my old stuff to a buddy of mine who seems to have had nothing but trouble with my old Abit nforce2 board and axp-2600 mobile processor.

Atm he can't get windows to install on a brand new harddrive and he stumped me with this one.

After windows finishes formating the harddrive and begins to boot into the graphic part of the installation it freezes up or crashes and starts over. He's reset the bios and the processor is only running at 600mhz and ram is only running at ddr200 (its rated for pc3200)

So its not a head issue or shouldn't be a heat issue stopping the installation.

Anybody have an idea on why windows isn't installing?

As he tried with only one stick of ram (if he has 2 in there) and has he tested the ram under memtest?

Only thing I can think of, is ram related or some hardware detection corruption ~ graphic card maybe ?

Edit: just to make sure , we are talking windows XP - Home or Pro? for sanity sake

WinXP Pro. I had him pull as much stuff out of the computer to narrow down possible problems.

atm he ony has one stick of ram in it and he has his 6800 agp in it too. Is a memtest run really needed because the bios is reset and that one stick is only running at ddr200

yes, resetting the BIOS will only give 'safe' settings, but they may not be 'safe' for those sticks he is using, maybe try to load optimised defaults.

That might done the trick rukee. I told him to do that and I haven't heard back since so it must of worked i believe. I'll get a confirmation and post again if it really worked.
