E-Machine (granted not the best), but decent options, $1500

3000+ @ 2000mhz, 512mb, 60gb, 15.4 screen...

how hot does the bottom of the laptop feels? could it be a heater in the cold winter?

So far pretty cool, cooler than my old P3 450.
For some reason the OS was corrupted when I booted it up...maybe casue I shut it down while it was starting up the sys prepped factory install?
didnt matter to me, just finished XP Pro on it and all the updates and wireless connections.
running 3dmark2001se 330 on it, but trying battery mode first..

3618 is the result, Ill try AC modde now..

3dmark2001se was a bit over 9k on AC mode..

thats with all services running and my 'as i use it' state..NAV, etc,,,

Im at work now, Ill try some more stuff later tomorrow evening, also get some pics of it up..

Here are some links to screen shots of some benches I ran on the lappy.

It did stay pretty cool all the while doing these too.
I plan to replace the 60gb/4200rpm/2mb cache drive with a 50gb/7200rpm/16mb cache one...in a week or so..

Oh yeh, fried my 9800Pro w/XT bios...it just up and quit with a hint of burnt silicon in the air.../

replaced it with my *spare* 9600XT

And YES, the lappy scored higher in Aquamark than my P4 desktop did..

Dont know, was playing a game, screen turned all white and blue designs....smelled burnt electronics...
turned PC off and checked the vid card...seemed OK, upon closer look though, theres a capacitor or something that burned up and came off...

I bought the 1st one on 1/22 for $1549 - $100 rebate

now, best buy has it listed 1/25 to 1/31 for $1549 - $100 rebate - $150 rebate.

I have to pay 15% restock fee since the box is opened if I want to return it and rebuy it to get the extra 150 rebate.

so buy a 2nd one, keep it sealed...return it with the 1st receipt (within the 14 day return period), keep the 1st one and send in the rebate using the 2nd ones receipt.

hey, its $150, that aint pocket change!

dbwillis please keep us updated on your lappy. I have been watching these like a hawk but I didn't want to plunk down $1500 on an eMachine.

How goes it so far? Any problems?

Nah, no problems at all...I stopped using it on Sunday...I sold my 802.11B router...802.11G router comes in Wednesday...so then ill be using it alot more.

I still didnt order the new HDD for it....the 4200rpm one hasnt given me any problems at all...dual booting XP Pro 32bit and XP Pro 64bit..
