View Full Version : 5 hard drive on MSI NF4 NEO

Question... can I put 5 hard drives on a MSI K8N NEO, I know there are 2 SATA controllers on this board that support 4 drives each (so I figure 8 total), right now I have 4 SATA hard drives on it, want to add a 5th drive, I plugged it in but nothing I plug into the second SATA controller is recognized, I looked everywhere for some place to enable that controller and found nothing. Could someone who is familiar with this MoBo please help?

Also, I am upgrading a hard drive and I want to make an exact copy of one older hard drive (C drive) to another new drive. What the best way to do this? I want the new drive to be exactly like the first drive and be my new C drive, and I want to boot from the new drive. I know Norton Ghost could probably do this but I want a way to do it for free. Thanks in advance.

I tried Hdclone it didnt work, that g4u one looked too complicated... says i need servers etc. for it to work. I tried western digital data life tools, i think maybe the problem is that i make an exact copy of c drive but the new drive still keeps its drive letter so maybe thats why i cant boot from it, maybe it has to be c drive.. i think im just gonna break down and go get norton ghost and if that doesnt work ill just go get a mac. I thought this would be simple. :bonk: :smash: :beat:

well finally got a fix for that clone drive, had to use a win 98 floppy boot disk and use fdisk /mbr to repair the master boot record on the new drive, that got it past the login screen and its working good now.... now i just need to install this 5th drive.... :scratch:

Yes you can install 5 drives on it. Look through all the bios and make sure all the sata ports are enabled.
