Tom's has reposted their 865 to 875 review with an update. Abit has now released a BIOS that also activates PAT on their Springdale board:\

"Update, June 4, 2003: a day after this article was posted, the BIOS version 1.3 Beta for the Abit IS7-G, a rival product, arrived. The initial tests show that Abit has made the same leap in performance and is now at the same level as Asus. Thus, the frame rates in Quake 3 have increased from 366 to 418 fps - this may be a sign that Abit has also activated PAT."

Or a sign that THG can actually set up a mobo and a benchmark?? The reveiw of the IC7 would lead me to think they dont have a clue. Someone here with an IS7 want to test it out?

You do know that Tom Pabst is one of the dumbest reviewers out there. That guy couldn't find his own "genitalia" if he was ****in' on himself. To be perfectly honest, I think the only reason people read his stuff anymore is to bring some humor to their day. I trust the Inquirer more than I trust anything at THG.

I HAVE the Abit PAT BIOS for the IS7, which I got from a more respected reviewer. I'm also told AOpen, and possibly Albatron, have beta's out for their 865 boards that enable PAT.

Prom, is that the same IS7 Beta that has the ICH5R RAID function disabled? The one found here (http://fae.abit.com.tw/download/beta/is7/) specifically?

BTW, I really look forward to your review. I think you'll quite like the IS7 (what you get for the money). Mine's been a walk in the park to get setup and running smooth.

No, the PAT BIOS is 1.3b3 and NOT the 1.3b1 that is posted. I have not heard of any disabled RAID issue with B3, but will certainly know whether this is an issue in a while :D

I finally figured out which BIOS y'all was talking about--I tried it and she didn't see my drive at all on IDE 3 (SATA 1) enhanced mode. I have a DVD-ROM on IDE 1 and a DVD+RW on IDE 2, so this was the only way that I could see to have everything accessible. Didn't see the Ctrl-I message for RAID BIOS at all. Since it's a Beta (maybe Alpha) BIOS, I wasn't too upset. :(

Good luck with it. BTW, let us know if it's an old one with the 3Com NIC.
