View Full Version : My Browser Was Hijacked Today

While doing some last minute Christmas browsing today my browser was hijacked! It was immediately redirected to some sight selling some Spyware software that I never heard of on some site called noware.com and then to a bunch of porn sights and it caused the doors on both of my optical drives to begin openning and closing ad lib.

Must be a very new hijacker cause the latest revision of Spybot and Adaware wouldn't remove it...I finally had to use Hijack this to get rid of the pesky Java script. I had done everything recommended to prevent hijacking short of changing browsers (Yeah it's IE 6.0 with latest SP) and it still got through. It must have been lurking on one of the forums I frequent or one of the computer shopping sites that I visited...Everyone be warned and be careful, I just thank goodness it was not malicious to the point of causing any real damage

What's Hijack, Miles? Maybe I should look into it.

It's actually "Hijack This" a cool little freebie software package that gets rid of nasty Java and ActiveX hijackers...LINK (http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/)

Those of you who know me know that this is a very sore subject for me. Those of you who don't, I'm happy to explain:

If you go to page which is littered with ads, even annoying ones, it's not really something you may like but you chose to visit that page and therefore have no complaint. But when you hit a page which causes pop-ups, whether it's one window or as drastic as what Paragon went thru, it is (IMO) a complete violation of your privacy. It would be the same as a hacker invading your system and opening up IE without your permission, and as far as I'm concerned pop-ups should be treated as the same criminal activity. I know that sounds drastic but this is a script, or app, which is causing a window to open without permission.

I don't intend on using BE to mount a crusade against things like this, I'm simply expressing my opinions. I will, however, say that BE will NEVER cause a pop-up or anything similar whilst I am in control of it....I respect people's privacy and try to adhere to the Golden Rule...;):p:wave:

I'm sorry to here about this, and sorry that you had to go thru it Paragon...:(
